Which spanner wrench set?

The 1054 kit would have worked on most of my repair jobs. I use a set that is very close to them, and get annoyed by the blades coming loose. These have permanent blades.

I bought a T-132 set but found that I don't like the "steel ball" design; getting tips in place needs quite a bit of force and I am not too sure how long it will last.

So far I needed only straight pointed and slotted tips so if I were to buy again, I would probably go for permanent tip spanners like 1054.
If you want exchangeable tips, consider SP4, which has screws to hold the tips.

Oh, and make sure that they have everything you want in stock.
I got a Niwa screwdriver set without a handle, which was marked back-ordered on the invoice.
I'm still waiting for it. :bang:

I picked up the SP4 about a month ago. It's great 😀 I've used the ones with the quick change tips in the past but they have a tendancy to slip at just the wrong time.

The only thing I had to do to my SP4 was file the blades down very slightly ... a little thick for the fixed lens rangefinders from the land of the rising sun 😉

Dan,

Since you have used both the SP4 and the T-132, do you know if those tips are interchangeable between them?

Jason.

If you try to push them straight upwards, they are difficult to set in place but if you push them in from the side, they go easily enough using a thumb and finger.

I've used the ball-set model for over 30 years and the only problem I've had was losing my original set of handles during a move. I have the same model now and IMO they're hard to beat. I have all 5 sets of tips.

I'm not sure if the tips are interchangable ... never tried. I could check for you if you like. I work at the local used camera store on Saturday's for fun and they have the clip in type of tips on the two spanners there. When I wanted to order one for home the owner of the shop picked out the SP4 for me and said that he would never buy the other type again ... I think he has had them slip at the wrong time once or twice leaving scratches on gear.

I've been a tradesman for years and have always been very fussy about my tools. I was impressed with the SP4. Very solid.

Following what Walker said, I tried pushing tips in from the side of my T-132 and found it's whole lot easier than pushing in straight. So now I don't have to fear breaking it when changing tips. Thanks a lot! 🙂
