OK, I have a really basic question: what post processing steps in what order?

In other words, once I have my digital file, what should I do first, second, etc?

I was on my way out to work this morning and was a bit terse in my OP.

Scanned film or files from my digital--I don't generally shoot RAW but when I do those are saved as TIFF files.
So, let me try again.

What I generally do (TIFFs or JPGs) is:
  • brightness
  • contrast
  • color correction
  • unsharp masking
  • crop (if desired/needed)
  • save as needed depending on final use

I don't generally replace the original file but do save the edited version to the same folder.

  1. brightness
  2. contrast
  3. color correction
  4. unsharp masking
  5. crop (if desired/needed)
  6. save as needed depending on final use
I would suggest to do any sharpening after cropping/resizing/scaling, to hold the control over the effects.
