G'day ladies and gentlemen
Pop Quiz - If one had the option of purchasing one of the following reasonably priced (~$1500) 2nd user good condition m8s - which would it be?
Option A - Serial 3102### - 8k actuations
Option B - Serial 3107### - 250 actuations
Right now I am leaning toward option A as it is a known quantity - is this completely foolish?
Any advice, wisdom, experience or abuse would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

I can see your point, but I would differ and go for the one with the fewer actuations. Less use and likely fewer scuffs, too?

The number of actuations on each is actually quite low. Other factors might be more important. Does either one have a warranty (I'd prefer the one with the warranty)? Was either one sent back for remapping or other sensor work (I would prefer the one that had already been sent back)?
Can you ask the owners for RAW files shot at all ISOs of the same scene? It would be helpful to see if there is any red line or dead pixel...

If you don't purchase either of those M8's, let me know.
I am considering selling mine at the moment...

For $1500, I'd buy both and sell one of them on ebay for $2100...and then have myself a $1000 M8.

Perhaps in US, but $2100 or €1600 is a very realistic price in Europe. You may even need to go 200 euro higher to land one in excellent cosmetical condition.Goodluck trying to sell a Leica M8 for $2100. Prices have been dropping hard this year.

I think you better go look at the completed auctions on ebay. That's my proof. Where's yours to support your point?

• Leica M8 with all accessories and box WITH a Voigtlander 40mm 1.4 lens - AUD $2225.

• Leica M8 with accessories, box AND 2 batteries - AUD $1850

• Leica M8 body with accessories - AUD $1625

Proof is right there and fact is, prices are dropping hard on them this year, same with the Leica M9's. Most likely due to a supposed new Leica system this year.

I was speaking of US prices...which is where I am located and where I'd be selling. The fact is we are both right... they seem to sell in a wide range between $1700-$2300 US or so. The M9 still sells for 75-80% of new which is what every other used camera that is in stock sells for used.

yeah, I rarely see them below $2100 in the USA. If they do, it's because they're beat.

Hmm. So this new Leica announcement in May will most likely push the value of the M8 down even further. Is anyone going to stick with their M8? or are they going to sell and upgrade?

Upgrade to M9 or what exactly? I don't see the M9 price falling significantly, so I will stick with the M8.Is anyone going to stick with their M8? or are they going to sell and upgrade?

+1 if the M8.2's framelines suit you better than the M8's. Beware that 35mm framelines are not accurate any more at medium to long distance with 40mm lenses on the M8.2.which M8?
