So I've just sold a lens and have £600 to spend on a wide lens to go with my 50/2 on my M6 TTL. What should I consider? I want to stay within budget - hard times innit?

I would prefer a fast lens and have considered the CV35/1.4 but am slightly put off by the size. I mainly shoot landscape and portraiture ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/jacksloan/sets/72157607789732322/ ) and would like to be as discreet as possible. Any thoughts?

thanks,
Jack

I do shoot indoors a lot but generally in daylight, so fast is good there, but I also shoot outside a lot too... I really want a perfect lens for all occasions! I understand I will need to compromise and nice tone and contrast would swing it more than speed. I think 28 is about right, but I'm open to suggestion.
Thanks again,
Jack.

Thanks szekiat. I assume you mean the Voigtlander 28/2? I do like the look of the 1.9 too. Thanks too to Uwe. I love my Hexanon 50/2 and will think about the 28. It seems quite hard to come by in the UK.

I'd go with a 28. I went with a 35 first but found it was a bit too close to 50 for me. The VC 28/2 is said to be a great lens if you want some speed.

I have the Ultron 28/2 on my M6. Not big at all and comes with a smallish lens hood that seems to do the job well. I was planning on the 28/1.9, but it's in LTM (nothing wrong with that, except for buying an adapter), and it's heavy, and has a huge lens hood.

Nice shots at your Flickr gallery.
Why do you need to be "discreet" to shoot portraits and landscapes?
Anyway, I agree with Gabriel, the best compliment for the Hex 50/2 is the Hex 28/2.8 or the Hex 35/2. Both are bigger when compared to the alternatives. I'm one of those that does not think the 50 and the 35 focal lengths are too close. However, because you like shooting landscapes probably go with a 28.

Thanks guys. I am thinking more towards a 28 I think. As for the discretion, I just feel that less invasive gear puts people at ease. I shoot portraits informally and often candidly, just by being in a situation where a nice photo might emerge, so I don't want people to act unnaturally around my camera. I'm probably being a bit precious about it, but it's just how I feel.

Jack, I think someone - perhaps it was you - mentioned that the Ultron 28/2 was a bit hard to come by across the pond. Google cameraquest and see if Stephen Gandy will ship overseas.

If you want to "compliment" your Hexanon - you should go with Hexanon 28 as they have similar signature. But if you just want some lens that is wider - well - than you have many to choose from. All depends on what you are looking for. 😉
