Whisperquiet M4-2 winder

Today the winder from Memphis arrived. Thanks, Memphis! I had to take it apart to get it to work: during transport a switch part has fallen out. No worries, this thing is really easy fixable!
I did the maintenance tips from this site and now it is perfect. Almost whisperquiet.
The original buffer material is completely gone, so I inserted a little piece of 3mm rubber used in insulated glazing.

Next project is to make or get a battery holder that doubles as a camera grip.
Two stacked penlight batteries are 10cm high, the camera plus winder is a little more. Has anybody done this yet?

Can you please explain what and how to do maintenance on it?

I can't really help you with yourt questions since I didn't use mine a lot.

The big clunky noise these old winders can make is created by the lack of stopper for the strong motor. There is a spring inside that gets tightened. That action should stop smoothly. The trick is to insert a rubbery stopping material and adjust the stroke of the motor to the absolute minimum. Sounds complicated but isn't.

The question about battery life is about how long to expect to last.
