white M8...any thoughts

So what? If you like, buy it, if not- move on. Why is it a bad thing if a company makes a few bucks by selling a special edition? Has nobody on this forum got leather seats in his car? or alloy wheels?

I suppose I am just an old traditionalist - but if it aint black or chrome it aint a Leica. OK I know they have produced safari and special models from time to time but most of them look nuttier than ratcrap in a peanut factory. I really dont like them I am afraid. (Well you did ask.)

You are probably not old enough - the first special was in 1929/1931 - 95 Leica I cameras, gold plated and with coloured real Lizard skin. It was such a succes that a further 180 cameras gold with kid leather were built. And those were real Leicas I can assure you, approved by Ernst Leitz and Oscar Barnack themselves....
 
I don't know if this is just a special edition or if it was made for a reason. Olympus made some white OM's in the past for very high temperature environments. Shooting all day in the sun, ie in deserts and I could see a purpose in this as the electronics would not be under as much stress, lcd's circuit boards etc. Personally, if I was given one, i'd get the brush and black paint out!
 
I know that it's kitschy, but I like it! I find it to be attractive in a minimalist way -- much like a Leica film camera.
