I know that some of our members have photo blogs. I messed around a little with one but it really wasn't conducive to photos. Can anyone recommend a good blogging service(?)?

🙂

Blogging service? Easy, run your own 😉
Seriously, if you get webspace somewhere, setting up MT or Wordpress as a photoblog is not that hard and you have full control over everything.

Blogging? Sort of!

I use siteframe, this is what contaxg.com runs on, to share my photos.

If you're up to renting some webspace (not very expensive, really) MovableType and WordPress are both excellent - although a small degree of comfort mucking about server-side may be needed.

Alternatively, SixApart (the folks behind MT) offer a hosting service where they do all the hard work.

I use MT, I like it a lot - especially since they integrated one of the anti-spam plugins, I have no trouble with comment spam anymore.

i will concur that the most control and least expense comes from using movable type from six apart (www.sixapart.com). MT requires installing the software onto your server and building your own templates. there are lots of help sites on the web and templates too. MT is great if you have a fundamental knowledge of CSS and HTML.

if you do not have your own web space or the inclination to set-up anything yourself, then six apart's service typepad (www.typepad.com) is wonderful. they offer "multimedia" templates for posting images with lots of simple but stylish designs. sites through typepad start at $4.95 a month and include server space -- its a great deal!

best of luck.

I use textpattern to power my blog, and hosting is done by a few friends. I will probably move the blog and "corporate" web site to textdrive after the summer, I hear textdrive are great.

I can recommend textpattern, although the first few hours of coding were a bit... difficult. After a few plug ins installed, a little messing with the CSS etc. the site is fully fucntional and looks like this: http://blog.hform.se/

i want to create a photo blog that is all flash...but i have no flash training.

Thanks for the replies! I'm usually inclined to 'do-it-myself,' but in this situation, I was initially looking to just sign up and start writing and posting. I am a rank beginner on this end, but from what I'm hearing it isn't very difficult. So I'll have to seriously reconsider my approach. I'll check out your blog links. Thanks again!
🙂

Setting up blogging software may not be that easy. I've been using Greymatter for over 4 years. Twice I've tried to install MT and gave up, partially because Geymatter does all I need and partially because my hosting service's servers weren't configured exactly the way MT needed. And I've installed a lot of scripts! The easy way is to go to a centralized system like Blogger or Typepad. Photoblogging is a specialized form of blogging and there is a good resource I was going to point you to, photoblogs.org, but they seem to be redoing things and won't be fully back until June 13. You might check back with them then.
