Who decided that we needed...

Oh, and another thing. Are distracting backgrounds and things sticking out of peoples heads considered "IN" nowadays in location portraits? Or a sign of the "hey, i got a digital rebel i are a photograper" times?
Hey Wayne, you forgot "Big red splotch on the side of a face gives the photo a".... oops, you were just drunk-posing with a large furry creature!

BTW, Jan's avatar has "reach".

Pop is OK if it's referring to flash photos, since it comes from the old magnesium flashbulbs that everyone used to use before Edgerton's elektronenblitzgerats becme universal. I'm a bit leery of having my subject pop though.

The pop star popped the paparazzi after the photographer popped a picture of the pop star, but the pop star's picture really popped off the page.😀

Here's my take on the number one word that should never have made it into the vocabulary:

=> PROSUMER <=

It's probably intended to mean something good but afforable. But whenever I see it, I can't think of anything else than 'overpriced piece of $#!t'.. go figure..

Try to express all that in german!
Impossible.
i respectfully disagree - of course it is possible to express it in german.
just you'll need plenty of time to read the epistles emerging.

but i agree, that there is an annoying tendency to try to make expressions "exact" in the german language. i remember a funny dispute about whether "schärfentiefe" or "tiefenschärfe" should be used (german expressions for DOF, like "depth of field" vs. "field of depth").

mentioning DOF - if that term is acceptable, why should "bokeh" be bad? from my point of view, these terms simply refer to the aspect of limited focus in photography, an immediate consequence of mapping the 3D world onto a 2D plane by the means of light.
whether or not the "enforced discussions" of the quality of lenses concerning bokeh brings you up the wall, i still think that bokeh is a quality that can play an important role. you just don't need to care for it.

again, just my 0,016 €

Sebastian,
I believe the current term now is "schiefentärfe" 😀😀

it would actually be quite funny to see this expressed in German - shall we give it a try???

If most Americans cared one whit about quality they would not have adopted VHS as the ubiquitous video format.

Amen! I thought I was the only one who knew Beta was superior. VHS was the first VCR format that could record an entire American football game. The rest is history.
