Who gives the best 1-Hour scans?

Is it true that Costco does 4.5 to 5mb scans? My CVS scans tend to be only around 300kb, about $3 per roll for a cd. Target scans tend to be around 1mb, but scanning is only part of a print package. How are the Walmart scans? I don't have a Walgreens near me, but I think I heard they were decent. I'm only doing about one roll per week.
 
I mostly use Walgreens. I've found the best ones are the Walgreens with the newer Fuji Frontier 350 or 550 machines and somebody who operates it who has a good attitude. Not all Walgreens have these machines and not all new Walgreens have new machines. Some still have older ones that won't even do CDs. I've found a couple of them which do fairly consistent results.

Walgreens does a DO/CD for US$5 and change.

Wally World (Walmart) uses the Fuji Frontier machines too, but my last experience with Wally World gave totally vile scans! I ended up rescanning the ones I used. 🙁 Besides, I am getting soured on the ways Walmart does business, so I seldom use them anymore. Wally World is just slightly lower than Walgreens.

Scans from both of these come to 1-1.5 MB or so.

There's an indie shop in the area which I use occasionally, which does a larger scan at the same res as Walgreens/Wally World, but less compression for US$8 and change for DO/CD. They come to about 3 MB or so.
 
Ive heard that the Frontier's scan res can be cranked up for your rolls if you get an operator who knows what they're doing. I've been sweet talking the girl at my local Walgreens for a while now trying to get it..

My local Costco scans are well over 6MB on some images. Media to CD is $2.99 per roll, 24 exp. For whatever reason Fuji Film scans are superb.

Here's two Zorki-4 negative scans from my "I Want You Dead" and "You Killed Me First" series.

Keep in mind they are rescaled (made smaller) for the web.

I think, like politics and real estate, it's all very local. Alot depends on the specific location's equipment, staff, training, etc. For me, here in west suburban Boston, the runaway best quality is the local Costco in Waltham. Not only is the quality superb, but the cost is <40% of what I was paying elsewhere.
 
I have good success with both Walgreens and MotoPhoto. I know you said you did not have a Walgreens near, but it might be worth it to see how far one is. The local one here has the latest Fuji equipment and caring operators.

My local Costco has been giving me 18(!) meg scans! I asked them about it and they said that so many customers were asking for high res scans that they made the decision to just do them all that way. Cost is about $5 for developing, scanning, and burning to CD a roll of 36. They use the Fuji machine-can't remember the model number. Excellent quality. BTW it's in Enfield, CT

Sam's Club gives only around 1MB scans for $4 (with developing and index card). Their premium scans cost $9.99.
