Hi,
Just wondering who's work you look to for inspiration. This is purely from your point of view...whos work do you find the most moving.

Thanks

When I get my scanner I will be posting !! Xmas is almost here!

Any chance to add a "hall of fame" or something like it for the best pics on the site.

Contax G does this, and I think its awsome.

So far we have stayed away from judging and competetiveness here at RFF, and I think that it is a good idea to continue to do so.

Also, let's not imitate the use of "hero" icons or "frequent poster" icons. That is so stupid!

With hundreds (thousands?) of members here on RFF, I find it difficult to pick out a handful of members whose work I like above others. Everyone probably has some gems in their portfolio. The difficulty is just to find them at the right time, with the right state of mind. I'm not fond of dog shots, for instance, as most are not worth the paper they were printed on but I've seen a few shots here on RFF that tickle my fancy. It's all subjective.

we all have the best portfolios

we all have the best portfolios

we all have the best portfolios! - that's something unique about RFF. We are equal under our common love of cameras and photography, no one second to any other, or superior either.

Ok....bad Idea!!!!

Very bad. This all clearly runs to the "best photographer of RFF" direction, as Joe said. I can't imagine any other way suited better to get a HUGE, BAD trouble here in this forum, bad enuff to damnage it so seriously that at the end it won't be ever what it was before ! 🙁

Well said! I totally agree.

The best photos depend on one's mindset. I've seen many very good pics and some that may not radiate but mirrored a moment that captured my interest. Please, let's not make this another peanut! :bang:

not a hope in hell!

we have had this discussion before, i am not comfortable with the idea of 'best'.

joe

I agree with that -- but how about a feature that would let us add a list of "galleries I like" to OUR OWN profile info?

It might help the RFF community to get to know each other better if other RFFers had an easy way to see what kinds of photos appeal to us, as well as seeing our own galleries.

Elsewhere we've been having a discussion about the idea that when somebody posts something controversial, it may be interesting to check his gallery to "see if he knows what he's talking about." Although there's some validity in that, it's also true that a person's TASTE in art can exceed his own executional ability. (True example: George Gershwin wasn't a particularly talented pianist, but that didn't stop him from writing good stuff for piano.)

I realize that it's easy to suggest an idea when someone else (Jorge) would have to do all the work, but if we wanted a way of highlighting especially interesting galleries without getting into having an ongoing "Miss America Pageant," this might be one way to do it.

hmm....
"best".. meh..

Photography, is, similar to "art" (ugh.. I hate using that word) in the sense that what one might think is good or great, another would think it's crap. So, "best" to me is irrelevant to you.

Look at the portfolios on here and I bet you, yourself, will find a number that are "best" and a number that are "lousy" in general BUT you're guaranteed to find great photos in each of those total portfolios thereby allowing you to see either a progression of the photographer or the ability of the photographer to appeal to a broad spectrum of viewers.

Cheers
Dave

I agree with Backalley, but only to an extent. The "everyone is the same" approach can have a dark side, too, as Kurt Vonnegut suggested in his hilarious short story _Harrison Bergeron_ (which is online, in case anyone has a spare 15 minutes).

JLW's suggestion, IMO, provides an elegant compromise while avoiding the pitfalls of other photography sites.

Just my 2c...

PS: dcsang - love your signature line!

WOW! Glad I had a second look.
There are some very impressive photos there. The ladies are nice, but that is some slide show!

and there's a red-head in there too 🙂

Don't know about best, but certainly the most popular.
