Who has the Lucky brand films down pat? A friend needs some help

A friend of mine is using Lucky film. Bought a bunch because it's cheap, but is having some hard times with the developing.

Who here has some good developing info for this film?

Which developer do you plan to use. I've used it with HC110 and Rodinal (prefer HC110).

I've used their medium format film with HC110 (dilution B), 7 minutes at 20C worked fine for me. I'm not too impressed with the emulsion though, both rolls I used had defects.

I've been shooting Lucky 135 and 120 format for some time now. With that said I process in HC-110, 1:31 for 8 minutes at 68º f and in Rodinal (the old Agfa stuff) 1:31 for 8 minutes at 68º f using vigorous agitation for 5 seconds every 30 seconds in stainless steel tanks. If I intend to scan the negs then I'll knock a minute off the times. Picture perfect at box speed (ISO 100) as far as I'm concerned.

Personally, I prefer Shanghai film in the 120 format over Lucky film due to the base being more manageable (flat).

On occasion there may be some defects in the emulsion on both films but that can be rectified by spotting or etching if wet printing and in post if scanning.

the one roll of 120 I shot and developed in rodinal (1:50) turned out downright awful. fuji acros works out to be not much more than lucky shd100, so I just kinda wrote that film off.

+ 1. It pushes well to 200. I develop in microphen.
The Lucky results i have seen lack basically everything

Read a blog on filmdev about stand developing, I tried it on a roll of lucky pushed to 400,1+100, 5ml of rodinal in 500ml of water for 1 hour 20.I couldn't believe the results, better than all the 'normal' developing I'd been trying with rodinal and ilfosol at normal times. Shots I took at dusk which I expected to be blank turned out with detail,some of the skies were grainy but I've been getting that any way with normal development, there's a few examples on my flicker.

I had a strange experience with Chinese film recently that has sort of put me off it. I had a pack of Era 4x5 in the fridge that had been there for a year or two ... when I bought it up to room temperature and opened it the whole lot had turned into a solid lump and was unusable. A pack of TX320 stored for the same period in the same conditions was still perfect!
