this sounds familiar...i hope i didn't start this thread before...

i do, by the way...i wish i were better at it but i do consider myself mostly a street shooter...i occasionally wander into other areas and enjoy the trip but if there were only one choice to be had, for me, it would be the streets.

I think I think of myself the same way :)

Certainly with any of the rangefinder style cameras, I do. If I'm lugging something heavier, maybe not; if I have the tripod with me, definitely not.

Even using a Mamiya m645 I consider myself a street shooter and there have been times I wish I had a tripod with me...I don't really try to hide what I'm doing while shooting...
I've been doing the street stuff as far back as the early 80's...

I'm a street photographer when I am shooting street, a nature photographer when I am shooting nature, a sports photographer when I am shooting sports, etc...

I dislike the term, and labels generally. Why constrain yourself? I photograph lots of things, sometimes on the street, sometimes not.

i was hoping for a simple yes/no thing...

but to add to the discussion...labels don't confine me...my attitude might but not labels.
plus, i have always loved the idea of street shooting and doing only that for my entire life would make me quite happy and i doubt that i could explore all the facets of it anyway.

when i moved to canada i did lots of landscapes, shots of skiers and wild animals...THAT got old pretty quick for me...

i do, i consider myself to be 100% street shooter...if i shot another theme it´s by chance or in order to test some gear...

I must admit i would love to shoot nude women...but my wife won´t let me and she won´t pose either (she´s a beaut thou :bang:)...that´s a problem...

But as a street photog i´m very happy...since i can remember everytime i wanted to shoot something i thought about street scenes...

I think all my gear in order to fit my street needs!

:)

If I had to label myself, I would label myself as "a photographer."

I do documentary, street, macro, panoramic, nature, landscape, urban, travel, night, abstract, automotive and occasionally wildlife photography. At present, my efforts are fixated on documentary and street.

Some of my photographic cohorts would label me as a "looney b@$t@rd" because I use only film cameras for my photography. :D

I'm not, though I did so a lot of street shooting when I lived in Santa Fe. That city had a vibrant street life that we just don't have in Fort Wayne. When we have festivals and carnivals here, I do go out and do street-type work, though. Mainly I consider myself to be a documentary photographer. Sometimes I shoot buildings, sometimes posed portraits, sometimes candid street-type photos of people. Sometimes I shoot landscapes. Whatever I need to tell the story.

Ironically, I did most of my street-type work before I ever owned a rangefinder camera! I used an Olympus OM-4T. Today, I'm using rangefinders for almost everything! I have a couple of Leicas and I recently sold my Hasselblad kit to buy a Mamiya 6, which I absolutely love.

Yes, but not exclusively. I will be hopefully shooting some street shots later. I have a newly acquired XA3 to try and it should be perfect for these shots.

No! .... to label myself as any type of photographer seems pointless.

Another monkey with a camera ... yes!
