Nothing is what I want
I am very happy to finally have the privlige of "meeting" one of the most influental people in my photo odyssey. I started reading your columns in Camera 35! You had a column in November of 1976 outling how you used Rodinal with sodium sulfite added. I tried it, my negatives were beautiful and I used that combination for over twenty years. (As I believe that Rodinal changed somewhere along the way I eventually switched to X-tol.) But your willingness to share your knowledge made me a better technician and that gave me the confidence to be a better phototgrapher. I knew how to meter, and now I knew I could pull great negatives, so I was free to concentrate on making good images.
I also remember your tributes to W(onderful) Eugene Smith; but especially your farewell after his death. He was one of my heroes too and I envied you being able to send time with him in such a casual and intimate way. But, I was grateful that you shared your memories of such a complex man.
This is long overdue: thank you.

Maybe we could get Jim Elder interested in RFF to complete the set. Last I heard he was roaming the Southwest in an RV.

You folks have posted some very warm welcomes, and I thank you.
Paul, of course, has no idea what any of us are talking about. He doesn't know he is surrounded by old codgers - or, as they're referred to here, the M3 crowd.

Dear Mister Pierce,
All-tough this is the first time I hear about you, and, particularly after reading the intro to this thread and the reply's, I consider it as a honour to be allowed to share this wonderful forum with you.
Please do forgive me my ignorance.
A warm welcome from the old continent!
P.S. Is there a possibility that your 1976 article about Rodinal and silfiet (and the others as well) can be published on this forum?

Oh, dare we hope...(and Lief Ericksenn while we're at it), but I'm just glad Bill's here.

One of the mags I miss most; had it delivered to my mailbox up to the bitter end in 1982. Still have all my copies, including the one with a great (and funny) article on BP, complete with infamous photo of him astride his darkroom sink. Ah, those freewheeling days...

Hello Bill,
Welcome to the RFF
Your photos are in my mind iconic or at least historically preserving many icons of in history.
Though I have to admit I have seen much of your photography and loved many of your images without even tying a name to the photos. Of course some my associate that sort of consumption with my generation
It will be truly wonderful to read your unique perspective in the world of photography and enjoy your contributions.

I'm only in my mid 30's but I can remember sneaking coffee into the University Library stacks to read issues of Camera 35. Welcome Bill! I'm pretty new and this is my favorite photography forum. Great bunch of people.
