Another boring poll about a camera that's been hammered to death ... but it's a simple question really!

Well ... do ya punk? :D

Keith, I didn't vote because I don't have an M8. But on general principles I can assure you that if I had one I'd keep it forever. I buy cameras. I don't sell 'em.

Oh ... I forgot to mention:

I'd like to dedicate this poll to Dave Wilkinson! :D

If "forever" means "as long as it lasts", then yes.

Cheers,
Uwe

I think if or when mine calls it quits it'll become an ornament ... it frightens me to think what these pioneer digital M's could cost to repair in the future!

I'm of two minds at the moment. On one hand considering what I paid for it new, then plus the upgrade, vs what I can get for it even now, it doesn't really make sense to me to sell it. It's not like I need the cash for groceries (or that $2500 buys that much groceries anyway :() OTOH, if I'm honest with myself I've probably not fired the M8 up more than twice in the last year, since I got my Canon 5D-I; so if I did what I probably should, I should sell the M8 and all my lenses too, and be done with Leica. Then I pick up the lenses and feel the heft and how smooth they work considering how small they are, and compare them to the EF lenses, I'm just not ready to cash out quite yet.

As much as I'd like to me immortal, I will die, and it'd be stupid to burn a perfectly good camera along with my body, so no, I guess I won't be keeping my M8 FOREVER.

Well, if you would have lived in Egypt about 2500 years or more ago, you would have thought otherwise (but then, I'm not sure you would have an M8 :D).

Stefan.

I may sell it if money gets tight. But I don't really plan on it. It is just sitting around since I've had the M9. But I figure it' a good idea to keep it as a back up in case the M9 ever drops dead for whatever reason.

Well, forever is a long, long time. Before it's over I might want to change my mind.

I've given this some thought as the inevitable upgrade dance began. I came to the conclusion that I will likely keep my M8 until either the march of technology or it's own electro-mechanical vulnerabilities makes using it untenable.

By the time it is old enough that I will buy another Digital Leica, it will have depreciated to the point of not being worth selling. Might as well keep it for collimating lenses at that point.

Keith,

I usually prefer not to express my opinion in this matters. However, in this case,
I would like to ask, what is the usual live span of a computer? (and, clearly, the M8 is a computer with an optical input device) Electronics are such an ephemeral thing!

Best,
Pau
