Two weeks ago I bought a Miranda Sensomat with an Auto-Miranda 50 mm 1.4 lens. The Sensomat manual states it is an 8-element 6-group lens. After cleaning the aperture blades I can confirm it has 4 lenses in 3 groups in the back. So it is not the later 7- lens 5- group one. I know Miranda (or Soligor, for that matter) didn't make their own lenses, so I did some internet searching. I suspect it is a watered down Taika (Tamron) 50 1.2 lens, but maybe someone knows better🙂?
Cheers, Jan

I have a Miranda Sensorex and the 1.8 50mm lens I think. Not sure who made it, but I seem to remember seeing a site with info on the Mirandas that listed 2 companies who made the lenses depending on which model and serial number.

I want to say Canon had some involvement but honestly I don't think that is right.

It is mentioned on this page: http://miranda.s32.xrea.com/miranda/MSJ_html/lens/standard_lens_3.html but no manufacturer is stated. A good bunch of Miranda lenses came from Kowa and Tokina though. Another possibility given the amber coating might be Mamiya Sekor, although I can't remember if their 1.4/50 had eight elements or not (I may be thinking of the 1.4/55).

Identifying the makers of Miranda lenses is difficult because starting in the 1960s Miranda began to make their own barrels and only the glass was shopped out (except for some extreme lenses).

Thanks all for all the information 🙂 . Tunalegs, I plowed through the info on the Japanese Miranda site. The only thing I found was Fujita as a possible producer of the 50mm 1.9 ( the one with the fiercely blue coating).
Joe Vitesse, I like mine too on my Sensomat. I have some samples on the net at http://www.pbase.com/jajong/miranda .
