who owns a recent production zeiss ikon here?

I have a black ZI and a chrome SW as well as the full complement of CV made lenses (21/25/28/35/50f2 and 50f1.5. I have the 18f4 and the 21f4.5 on order for summer delivery. Not a single problem in the 12-15 month I have had this stuff. favored lenses are the 25/2.8 and 50/2, closely followed by the 35/2 and 50/1,5.
At the moment i am modifiying a visoflex III to use with the SW!

I would like to be on the list... I have ordered my ZI along with Biogon 35/2 directly from Zeiss... but UPS is having troubles finding me... 2 attempts to deliver it failed... looks like I need to go over UPS headquarters in Dublin (which are exactly in the middle of nowhere) to get it if on Monday they fail again... and they do not reply to my emails!!!

I own a Black ZI. This camera has the class of its own. I can't describe my feeling but you will know it when you hold it and look through the VF

time to officially add me to the ZI owner's list, having put joe's ex-ZI to use for at least a month now.. now looking for a good affordable 28mm to dress it with

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I shoot with an M6 classic and am looking to add an AE body.

Initially I considered a preowned M7, but the Ikon looks awfully tempting, with a fantastic viewfinder, good handling and it is lighter than an M (carrying a camera around for hours at a stretch, every ounce counts!) but not flimsy.

Looking at all the favourable comments in this thread, including Francois' defection, makes me think I might be joining the Zeiss camp soon! :D

I've just got a parcel from Luigi, with a beautiful black ZI and an impressive Nokton 35/1.2, (not to mention a nice black half case) ,as this has been meant to be the option for 35-50 lenses and available light shooting.
I am really amazed by the viewfinder ! For me, and I use glasses, this is THE viewfinder to use with a 35mm lens in low light. For the rest the camera looks really nice. I am considering it to be my NR1 camera when I just have to carry one body - I just wonder if the 85mm frames are good enough for use with a 90mm Elmarit...

welcome to the zi club!!
i think the 85 fl work well with the 90, in fact in one of the reviews of the zi they said that the 85 fl measured very close to the leica 90 fl.

ZI, Planar 2/50, Biogon 2,8/28. First film shot, waiting for process.

If the ZI works well for my trekking and mountaineering use case,
probably will add the C Biogon 4,5/21 ZM and viewfinder. Tried the
25/28 viewfinder: very crisp. BTW the 4,5/21 finally is in production.

Southern german buyers I can recommend SHPHOTO / Nuremberg.

Cheers, Peter

I got a Zeiss Ikon Contina camera, from around 1956. I like this kind of cameras, but I dont know that much about them and dont know that much of how good they are in use.

Black ZI with Sonnar one week old.
But: just noticed that the lens mount ring shows already strong marks/gauges. The camera has hardly been used and besides the Sonnar, only two Leica lenses were mounted. I am quite surprised about my observation , since the mount rings of my M6 and M8 show no marks or signs of wear, although especially the M8 having been used quite extensively over the last 6 months.

Question to the seasoned ZI owners: how does your camera's mounting ring look like. Spoke to Popflash today and have been told that the ZI mount is made of much softer material than the Leica one and that (strong) signs of wear were quite normal, even after short periods of usage already.

Appreciate your input.

No signs of use on my 9 day old body.

Got mine about two months ago from popflash and have been having a great time with it.

Two minor quibbles:

1) I would really like to have had 75mm framelines in the viewfinder. I just happen to like that focal length a lot.

2) It's a little hard to focus because the viewfinder and the focusing patch have a very similar brightness. My Bessa R3A is easier to focus because the focusing patch area is brighter and edges are easier to see. The ZI is harder to focus in low light on people's faces, because of a lack of contrast between the two images (and a lack of hard edges on people's faces).

That being said, I like the camera and I'm keeping it.
