Who to cla m8?

I'm sure it has been asked ad nauseum...but I searched.

I would like to get my m8 checked and cleaned. Without sending to Leica, where in US is fairly quick. Fwiw, I have had no issue but feel it is time for a check up.

Only Leica can do that, no independent will touch a digi-M beyond simple mechanical repairs. But why do you need a CLA? These cameras only need such in exceptional circumstances.

The reason. I just figured it might need to be cleaned. I have been in some fairly duty environs with it lately. And I'm likely to take it on another trip to the bush later this year. I have never sent this camera in for such and I bought it here on RF used.

I just checked tonight and it has just over 22K on the shutter.

Any idea of rough costs if all is ok? I'll call and ask this week but anyone knows...

As there is very little to clean, lubricate and adjust on a digital body, I would suggest only to send it in if you notice something wrong - I have been taking digital cameras into the bush for nearly fifteen years and never felt the need, and before that I would have my film bodies checked over after each second trip.

Hmmm...Is the RF out of whack? If not I suggest simply cleaning the sensor by yourself. A static brush is sufficient most of the time, if there is grease or sticky dust on the sensor, go for a wet clean with brush and solution.

One of the things I can recommend is using the smaller size brush (APS-C). When I use the right brush size (FF for FF) dust always gets scraped onto the sensor by the brush itself.

I have always used swabs of the correct size (1.3 for the M8), and they work flawlessly. Never tried a brush, though.

Receive the following reply from Leica NJ in October of 2013 when I emailed Leica for an estimate for a CLA for my M8.

"It would be approximately about $475.00 for a complete overhaul. "

My main problem was a dirty sensor so I just ended up getting a "Sensor Gel Stick" and using that to clean the sensor.

That would however, as I understand it, give 12 month warranty which alters, for me the cost/benefit equation.

I already cleaned the sensor. It seems fine other than that. And I can use the 475 better than they can right now.

I guess I'll run her until she won't run...
