Looking for recommendations please on who to send my canon P’s to for a full overhaul including rebuilding the shutters.

I’ve got 2 Canon P’s, loved them but the shutter curtain ribben’s broke on one and there’s now a fracture in the curtain on the one I then got to replace it.

Would love to get both repaired and back in full working order.

I’m UK (London) based but not opposed to sending them away.

Thanks in advance for your input - I’ve asked around a lot and not yet found anyone that will take in this work.

You can try Kanto Camera in Japan. I'm pretty sure they can fix your cameras, though it may take 4 months to get them back.

Full shutter rebuilds are tough to source in the UK. The guy I rely on to do it is retiring and will not take on any new clients, sadly; I just checked in with him last week.

PPP won't do it. I don't think Aperture will, either. Cameraworks (Leica repairs and repaints | Bury | Cameraworks-uk) almost certainly will for Leicas, but I don't know if they'll touch Canons. I can't think of anyone else to even consider.

Oleg at OK Vintage Camera definitely will do a full overhaul on a Canon P - repair - and he might be faster than Kanto. I'd start there.

As you are in the UK, for VAT simplicity reasons, it may be worth trying the ex-Newton Ellis guys as they should be starting up again soon. I don’t know if Ian is continuing but he did good stuff for me. I will second Oleg though, just you will have to deal with the post-Brexit customs mess.

If the shutter is « fractured » it may need to be replaced with cloth whoever does it. I presume a direct cloth replacement of the metal curtains is possible.

I would second the Newton and Ellis people, they have done some very good work for me in the past and it would be nic eto think we are keeping them busy!
