I understand mabelsound's point. RFF members are a hardy, resourceful bunch. And I agree with his point about the value of process, not simple technical excellence. If there's one thing of value to me here, it's the discovery of "street photography" ethos.

But, I also think evil SLRs should appear in the forum list at left. Large Format is there, and that seems to contain a lot of threads about non-rangefinder cameras. Half-Frames contains a lot of Olympus Pen (which is an SLR). The 120 Forums contain a lot of Hasselblad threads. It's silly to pretend we're staying true to our roots by hiding the link to SLRs.

silly is the word i was looking for... thks.
not to mention that if you look at pics/ portraits of larry burrows and other heroes while working, there is usually a nikon F hanging there.

Yup, the average Leica totin' PJ in the Old Days had a Nikon F with either a 180/2.8 Nikkor or a 105/2.5 Nikkor hangin' from his shoulder. The 180/2.8 Elmarit was heavier than the Nikkor, and the original Leicaflex was a poorly thought out piece of crap. When the Leicaflex SL and SL2 came out you'd have to get all your lenses equipped with "the second cam". When the R series was introduced everybody knew that they were Minoltas with a Leicaflex lens mount at twice the price of the Minolta version. You also had to send your lenses off to get a THIRD cam added. Good planning in Wetzlar, huh?So we carried an F with our "backwards" focussing 180/2.8, the lesser of the evils.

Now Leitz has become Leica, they cleared out of their old digs in Wetzlar, and are marketing what? A Panasonic toy digital with a Leica lens for twice the price of the Pansonic version. The M lenses, if you want to use 'em on your M8, need to be "coded", as big a pain as adding cams were thirty or forty years ago.

how about an "i wish it was still the sixties" forum?

maybe a "if you didn't learn how to photograph in the 70's there's no way you could be good" forum?

whenever this type of topic comes up many people base their choice/opinion on whether they like SLR or not (TLR or the others not shown previously or now), or whether they are rangefinders or not, assumably because this forum being called RFF means they dont qualify to be on the list!! crazy....the fact is there is a SLR forum, that is a forum navigation list on the left so it should be on it! the TLR is now finally, it was ridiculous to have to go find it before.

the only compromise (or feature) i think could be made is in the member options if a check box for each forum was installed allowing you to show only the forums you wished. otherwise they should all be shown because that is what a navigation list is for

There should be a link but to Photo.net and FM and dpreview if you want to talk about digital. Why stop there? A link to Hasselbladinfo and largeformatforum, etc etc.

No, I wouldn't like an "Evil SLR's" link, just a pointer to DSLReXchange, which is a sister site to this one.

Wait, it IS there, just keep scrolling down...

stop exaggerating the issue. there's a link to the Hardware forum with 5 posts on the sidebar yet none for SLRs?

if it were up to me the slr section would be history along with a few others.

although this forum is called RFF, i find the SLR and the MF discussions quite enlightening and some stuff like the MF forums aren't really bettered anywhere else

List all of the boards or none of them in the sidebar. To politicize the matter and list some or most of the boards is just absurd. It's about navigation, nothing more.
