Have you seen rangefinder shooters during the course of your day to day life, ie, spotting one when you trundle past on the bus or have you seen one walking past the window of a cafe you're sat in? Do you wonder what they were spending the day taking photos of? Shall we use this thread as a kind of rangefinder amnesty?

I was working at Brighton Racecourse about a month ago and had a quick chat with a fella shooting with an M8. Are you on here M8 shooter? What were photographs like from that day?
On the first day of the Ashes test at Lords I spotted a gent over the road with two black M's around his neck. Are you on here double M shooter? What were your photos like from that day? Show yourselves!

Has anybody else had any close encounters with RF shooters?

Here in Ottawa I have never come across an RF shooter by coincidence. I have seen Leicas around necks in Dubai, although I think they were being used mostly as pendants. I also ran into somebody in Vancouver downtown who was shooting with a pre-M Leica ... other than that, I think I hang around in the wrong neighbourhoods ...

I was having a walk near home in Seville and I saw a leica shooter... weeks after I saw some of BillP pics and I realized the shooter was him.... I wish I started then a conversation...

-In Rhodes I saw a tourist with an FSU (nearly extinct those guys!)
-In Vienna a guy from Japan who tried to behave very low key, which grabbed my attention so that I noticed the beautifully blacktaped Leica in his hand ("Zen in the taping of a Leica")
-In Vienna I meet other guys regularly be it with M8's or even (They are very expensive here! 500-700€ for an R) Voigtländers.

Go to Arles:

http://www.rogerandfrances.com/photoschool/arles 2009.html

There, you'll see as many Ms as point-and-shoots.

You'll also see people carrying Ms and Rolleis and using camera phones to shoot. Though they're probably not the ones you see every year...

You'll also see far more digital cameras than halide, but at the exhibitions, you'll see far more pictures taken with halide than with digital...

Cheers,

R.

And I haven't seen you either. You must not spend much time in centertown.

🙂

In Montreal, I often see people with Leica M, M7 and M6... I never seen somebody with an another rangefinder than a Leica in this city...

To have talked with some of them, a lot of those wandering rangefinder'er are photographer and this is their sunday's toy... Away from all this digital they often tell me...

When I was in montreal once someone commented on my m4-2 as I was sitting eating some croissant. He asked if "i was into that kind of photography."

I bumped into a guy using an M4 with a 90mm (I think) on it recently, on a local canal in Birmingham (the original one). Chatted a bit and then he wandered off. That's the first RF shooter I've spotted.

During an Austria bike tour (one or two years a go) I was seating in a cafe near a man with a Leica III, with a CV 35 f2,5 on it. I didn't want to bother him with chat since he was talking to a friend, showing him the camera.
And my wife (back then girlfriend) doesn't approve of me talking with strangers about cameras 😀

I came across a M3 shoooter about two years ago but she was in a camera store and wasn't really shooting at the time...sorta like watching lions in the zoo...not really in the wild...but never the less a great spotting...

Does that count ???

I bumped into one the other day at an Ag show. He shoots in my area and when I looked at last months BW mag there he was again .Don`t know if he is on here but this is his site www.ajbiggs.co.uk
Ps Had an M6.

I saw a Leica around the neck of a fellow at Glacier Point a couple of years ago. As I was using my Mamiya 6, I figured that we were the last 2 film shooters in the Park. Before I could get over to him, he vanished. Probably just a figment of my fixer addled brain.
