I just got a Canon 50/0.95 and am wanting to get an M mount conversion of it for my R-D1. Who all is doing that conversion these days and what have been your experiences with the conversion you had done?

Ken Ruth of Photography on Bald Mountain currently is doing a conversion for me.

You have to send the lens, screw to M adapter, camera it will be used on, and a wide angle lens.

The camera needs to be checked with the wide angle for proper back focus before doing the lens conversion otherwise it may not work properly..

Two in Texas?

Two in Texas?

Two Canon 50/0.95 lenses and M mounts in Texas? I better hurry if I want to catch up.

Grinning. Just what Bigfoot and Bubba need. A pair of humongous 50mm lenses! 😱 😎 😀 😉

Y'all enjoy!

That reminds me..It's time to make another Dublin run for some Dublin Dr. Pepper..

Here is a link to a webpage by a person who had his converted by another outfit (EastCamTech) with good results:

I bought one that was already converted to M mount and it works perfectly on an R-D1. Focus is spot on at closest focusing distance and it can be focused reliably despite the short R-D1 rangefinder base. The lens obstructs a corner of the viewfinder, but not too badly. I bought a 72mm screw-in hood with straight sides from heavystar on ebay that is made for short telephoto lenses, it doesn't add much to the viewfinder obstruction and doesn't vignette on the R-D1.

It's a little tricky to get the lens off the camera (it's big enough in diameter to cover the lens mount unlock button) but you can use the clip on a plastic bic pen cover as a little lever to push the button down. Some conversions include a little gadget that does this for you. It's more of a problem on the M7 because there's not enough room to squeeze your finger in between the lens and the button, which there just barely is on the R-D1.

WOW

I am very very impressed. Wonderful photos.

I have an 0.95, but don't really want to change the mount. I'll settle for shooting it with film.

Hi Vickko, they're jlw's photos, not mine - I think they're great too.

It's really a nice lens and well worth the trouble of tracking a good one down. A fraction of the cost of a Noctilux.

Is anyone aware of someone in the UK who could do this conversion? I've just picked up a near-mint 50/0.95 at Photographica in London today, and I'd dearly like to try it out on my R-D1.

Thanks,

Alan
