I think Panasonic should be commended for the GF1. It's a culmination of a long line of cameras along the same train of thinking. The LC1, the L1, the LX's and the G1 and GH1, shows that Panasonic have had ambitions for a good quality photographers compact a long time. Olympus EP-1 however is just capitalising on the trend that Panasonic, Sigma and Ricoh have been putting effort into building up. The EP-1 doesn't ring the right bells either, it looks like a toy, and an ugly one at that.

No GF-1 for me. Waiting..........
No GF-1 for me. Waiting..........
I believe that Olympus will meet my desires when they intro the EP-2 at year end. If not, I will likely not go with Micro 4/3 and will get the Olympus e620, which is a touch smaller than my e420 and not much bigger than the G1 Panasonic.
If the EP-2 doesn't meet expectations, the only micro 4/3 I could see getting is the G1 (new).

It's a confirmed rumor that a new M43 from Olympus will be announced end of this month.

Glad I ordered the Panny then - I just gotta wait for amazon to ship it.
I went for the 20 1.7 option.
I also ordered a convertor for my nikon primes - just to have a laugh.
If the focussing turns out to be too hard for my old eyes then I'll flog the convertor on eBay.
I've also opted for a Luigi hand strap, something i have toyed with for my Nikon.

I switched from R-D1 to the GF1. Should be here somewhere next week.
The R-D1 remained too bulky and heavy after all. So I mainly used the Digilux 2 instead. But I also need better higher ISO. Maybe the D2 will go too.
I managed to get a 7-14 zoom to cover the wide end.
So if all goes well, there may be some sales here soon. I plan to compare the Panny 20 to the Kobalux, maybe one will go.
And there will be some spare M-screw adapterrings, if the LTM-m3/4 adapter works properly.
The Canon 25 should make a very small package too!

I'm quite excited about the 7-14mm. I love my M cameras for 28-90, but I'm not a big fan of switching accessory finders, and needing to focus in a separate window...the 7-14 may well be the perfect solution. You're happy with the IQ?

there really isn't much need to focus with a super wide.
when i use the 15 on the rd1 and the d finder, it's like a point & shoot, very quick to use and easy.
having said that, i look forward to the 20 and think i won't be able to afford the 7-14 without having to sell something first.
i think the g1 and the 20 are gonna be a killer combo.

I am on my honeymoon in Europe and although I didnt have plans to go digital again I bought a GF1 and the kit lens in Berlin. I really wanted the 20/1.7 but it was too expensive in the only store that I found. And where I got my camera they accepted some Voigtlander lenses that I had and I dont use anymore as part of payment and I got the tax free as well - what a great deal!
And how do I like the GF1? It is fun! Very fun to use, has quick AF and the kit lens is not that bad at all. My fave digi camera was the Ricoh GX200 which I sold to buy my M6. Since then I had a DP1 and did not like it (great IQ but too slow) and I promised myself that I will be only shooting film for years... But, I dont know, I am starting to love the GF1.
Until now I just shot in JPEG because I am travelling with my netbook... You can find some photos in my Flickr.
And here is one image that I took in Rome. Cheers!

I've pre-ordered one - deliveries start here in about 10 days time. Got the kit zoom (14-45 approx which covers my normal shooting range and which I probably won't take off) and the optional viewfinder, maybe later will get the adaptor to fit my M mount lenses.
My first "proper" digital camera.
I was going to wait for the rumoured E-P2 but I doubt that Olympus will have overcome all the deficiencies in the first model so quickly and it seems the GF-1 has it all together now. It will be useful for certain situations that challenge an RF or TLR but I still intend to use film especially for B&W.

Mine is arriving tomorrow, along with the 20mm. I cannot wait. My quest will be someone else's gain too, as I'll be selling my G1 if I like the GF1 as much as I think I will.

It took a while and a lot of flip flopping between the GH-1, G-1 and the GF-1 but I finally made up my mind and bought the GF-1. I'm looking forward to using it!
I got the GF-1 with the 20mm pancake - it seems like the best combo for me. Now to sell some of my gear and get my hands on an RD-1 and I'll be in photography heaven.

Mine arrived today...wow, it's small! Almost exactly the size of the Canonet QL17, if I am remembering it right. The camera and lens are amazingly lightweight. Will take some pics tomorrow!

Oh, I didn't realize that! That's good. It's kind of a drag if I want to adapt M lenses, but I will mostly use those on the R-D1, to be honest, the way I do now.
How does the Pana kit zoom compare to the Olympus one?
All three Lumix lzoom enses are superb. The 45-200, maybe a little less so, but the 7-14 and the 14-45 are excellent.

Well, spent a couple of hours testing out the GF1, and I am very, very impressed. Negatives: less comfortable to hold than a small DSLR, rather loud shutter, no focus confirm beep for legacy lenses, RAW files are rather dull by default (I will create a new profile in Lightroom once I've got more samples), focus magnification for legacy lenses requires two keypresses instead of just one. Positives: compact, fast, versatile, good IQ, and this legacy lenses thing is so fun I can barely stand it (as many G1 enthusiasts have said, manual focus is as easy as on a Leica, and perhaps more precise, ultimately). Also, I've got the 20mm f/1.7, and it is awesome, and aufofocus is blazing quick...plus, it focuses WAY closer than any RF lens and most SLR lenses as well. I'll probably get the EVF eventually, but I had no trouble using the screen...I do not share many RFFers' disdain for composing on an LCD, even if I do prefer working at eye level.
Some sample pics with various lenses are below. My favorite to use so far is the Olympus Pen 40/1.4...it focuses very close...and looks great on the camera. I will have to save up for the 60/1.5!
