Wht to do in London in 3 or 4 hours

I´m traveling on Business and from the US. I´m leaving Spain this afternoon and arrive in London Heathrow at 5 PM Sat Aug 25th, leaving the next morning for Glasgow. I´m spending the night t the Holiday Inn at the airport. Not even there and am bored thinking about. I have never been to London, any suggestions for very short sight seeing tour from the airport by bus or train.
 
Heathrow is actually not that close to London proper, I'd suggest you get the Heathrow Express, a fast train into Paddington. Then it depends what sort of stuff you like to shoot, I'd say for street, Soho is good.

Pubs are everywhere in London, Paddington will be fine for that...

Yes, Heathrow Express is a fast/direct light railway to/from the airport, it's very good, well worth the money. It's more expensive than the tube, but so much faster.
 
For pure sightseeing, start out at the Houses of Parliament (Circle or District Line from Paddington to Westminster); walk up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square (a few minutes); then on up the Charing Cross Road to Soho (another few minutes). Back to Paddington (one of the duller parts of London) from Tottenham Court Road.

Why don't you just stay over a couple of extra days? Can't work that into your schedule?

PS: Even just taking the Heathrow Express to Paddington is interesting. It's a classic Victorian Train Station. Fascinating ironwork and lots of shops in the area.
 
Thats really a tough one. Heathrow is a way out of the CBD and there is so much to see in Lonndon proper. But for such a short stay I would recommend something simple - a walk along the Thames Embankment from the Houses of Parliament east for a kilometer or so would give you a nice idea of the city. The area by the Thames is about the only really open space in the centre and its hard to get an image of London I found as there are so many tight winding roads. I think thats what I would do. I had a similar experience a decade ago (but had a bit longer - the better part of a whole day when overnighting on a trip to Amsterdam) and as I had been working in the legal system (and enjoyed watching Rumpole of the Baily) I chose to take a wander through the Inns of Courts where the barristers havetheir "chambers" -a not touristy and quite interesting way to see some of the remnants of old London (including the Temple where part of "The Da Vinci Code" was filmed. I also made enough time to wander through Soho and Chelsea and visit a traditional pub as others have recommended.

It really is a VERY short walk, minutes not hours. Well, maybe 45 minutes from one end to the other. Just go for Houses of Parliament to Trafalgar Square if you want to cut it down to 10-20 minutes. ¿BMW shops? (another Spanish keyboard) Not that I can think of, and besides, they'd be shut on a Saturday evening.

Glasgow is not what it was -- Williamson's and Franks of the Saltmarket are gone -- but Sauchiehall Street is always worth seeing.

Glasgow is full of good pubs!!
The Scotia Bar on Stockwell street is the oldest and still one of the best for old fashioned Glasgow pubs with great atmosphere. Billy Connolly is among many good folk musicians that sometimes play here. Its very near to the city center.

Rogano is a great art deco bar/oyster bar/restaurant but a bit pricey. Its in the city center in between the two train stations.

If your in the west end of the city head to Ashton lane, a little cobbled street with a couple of very good bars and resturants. Try out Brel or Jinty McGintys. If someone else is paying go for dinner at The Ubiquitous Chip!
 
I'm in Glasgow for work. Japanese customers with Glasgow manufactuer. Staying downtown, will check out the Scotia Bar if I can work it in.

Had no time in London with the delayed flights. Very expensive city. The Express cost more than the flight from Spain.
