Why 35mm is the best, talking head video.

What about 15, 21, 24 and 28mm? Not so many moons ago, zoom lenses had a bad reputation but lens technology has evolved. I now often use a Fuji 2.8/16-55mm lens and it gives me whatever wide-angle option I fancy for whatever moment.

16*1.5=24.


I'm happy with 20mm 3.8 under 100$ Vivitar F mount lens. Planning to get LTM adapter for it. I also have two 28mm F mount lenses. My two Nikon SLRs kit is 50 free. I'm not considering 35mm for it at this moment.
But on Leica 35mm is my main choice.

My favorite lens at this point is my Voigtlander SC Skopar 21mm f4, but when I shoot it I know it is not "normal", and it feels wide. I have a couple really nice 50mms (Sonnar and Ultron), but sometimes I feel they are too narrow view. I think 35mm probably is the best compromise. I have a DKL mount Shchneider-Jreuznach f2.8 Curtagon, and I just bought (and am waiting for) a Fujinon-W EBC 35mm f2.8 (M42). I can adapt the Curtagon to a couple of M42 cameras (or my XT-2, but i end up cropping it).

Regarding zooms I do concur with the talking head in the video. A prime forces one to get in there, work the perspective, teaches you what you can do with that one angle of view and gives you a set of pictures that's more consistent. But if you are deliberate enough not to get lazy with a zoom, or if you simply need it to get the shot, a zoom is great.

It reminds me old soviet TV programs. Before let you watch the movie they have long talk about it 🙂 And back then we couldn't skip it.
