I browsed eBay and found this prototype M lens...

At the first glance I thought it's $750. I almost clicked the "buy now" button.

I think I'm new to this universe. Is a prototype can be that expensive?

You should check the price of the "normal" 35 lux AA 😉
but at the end. No, this price is crazy.

It is known seller from Toronto for selling under not existing prices. M3 for about the same price is also from him.
Most of the time regular gear is offered at normal prices. Since it is registered as business, he has to collect taxes on sale. I have to add 13% to this price.
