why did this M3 sold for so much ?

please define excellent cosmetic condition for me then.

Something without a dent like this? ... and it wasn't mentioned in the description. The vulcanite isn't an issue nor are the strap lug marks and the shutter may have very little wrong with it ... but without a new top plate you're stuck with this!

It puts it in the user catagory IMO!

I'm not at all surprised. Everything Leica seems to be going for nutty prices.

A local dealer has an M2 that is very rough for $600.
Lots of dents and wripples on the top plate. The chrome is worn through on most of the edges. The covering is chipped and ugly.
It seems to work OK and they tell me their tech has checked it over and the shutter speeds are good.

And guess what. I offered $500 and they said NO. :bang:

I still may have another go at it. It's a prime candidate for a black paint job.

Well, excellent for me would be without major marks or blemishes cosmetically and in operating condition mechanically. The missing vulcanite, ding in top plate and any other external wear that is heavier than normal plus the fact that it is inoperative mechanically puts it into the beater category for me. Like I said everyone has a different definition of what a camera in excellent condition means. I never take anyone's word on a cameras condition preferring to see it myself for just that reason. To me excellent is one rung down from mint and I don't me what passes for minty these days.

Had another look at the listing and beater is too harsh so maybe a good user if it was working.
