Why did Zeiss re-invent the wheel with Sonnar?

I can't believe I just read all this...My head is spinning. 😉

I enjoy taking pictures and never have dwelled on this side of the equipment world for any serious or great length. Not to say knowing all this is bad or negative when taking pics, I just don't have this knowledge or approach. Mostly, I go on what I see and feel about the tools I have been using in the past year and a half and the results I can milk out of them. The 85mm Zeiss f/2 fake sonnar or whatever it is in actuality has been a wonderful lens for expressing my vision when it comes to Artistic Interpretation, a bit different than documentation type of photography. So the thing is big, so the thing is expensive "ouch", so the thing is not a true sonnar, so the thing is whatever. I love the tool and what it gives me. My weapon of choice is a personal thing, it provides a confidence I can feel when shooting and the knowledge that I will get close to what I envision when taking the shot.
I truly appreciate all the information and knowledge I have gotten from the brain trust on RFF... ahhhh... time to go take some photos, the sun is slowly setting in the WEST..

dont get me started on the Leica 50mm pre-ASPH it is as close to perfection as one nutty photo guy can get...!

It's not a direct copy- but follows the same 1-3-3 Sonnar configuration. The "optical prescription" is different as the thickness, curvature, and refractive indices of the elements and groups are different from the original Sonnar. The 5cm F1.4 Nikkor NKT lenses are slightly different from the NKJ lenses, and the "optical tweeks" made show up in the results. The post-war CZO and CZJ Sonnars are different from the original CZJ lenses.

I bought Hacker's lens. I love it. Not size and weight is not much different from the 90/2AA or the Summilux 75, but much sharper wide open at close distance.
