it's a very good idea.
the 15 is a 22.5 (or so) on the rd1.
my 28 is about a 42 on the rd1.
i shot these w/o a finder.

Last week I received 15mm Heliar and I got to try it out. I'm quite impressed with the thing. Keeping it level to take advantage of the rectilinear abilities is a little tricky but I'll work on it.
The price is right too.

Impressive shots...Some may not like but RF wide angles are having the least distortion technically...(less than SLR equivalents). I believe this lens is impressive and it does what is expected from it very well. It can be really good in architectural shots...Thanks for sharing the shots..

I really love this lens!
All I did was to darken the highlights and warm the color; about two minutes of editing. The original is on Flickr

A few more street shots with it:

I just bought the new M version of the 15, and like it bunches more than the original version. This shot is cropped, but shows the nice DOF available.

Is the only advantage of the new lens over the old rangefinder coupling? Why do you even need that with a lens that has this much dof, even at its widest setting?

The new lens can be rangefinder focused, has a more robust shade, and can take filters

I guess I didn't answer the question fully. If you are a careful shooter, probably you don't need rangefinder focusing. But the new lens has much better build quality, easier to mount, and as I mentioned, the shade seems to actually do a job, unlike the early version.
