Why I like the R-D1 and cv 40/1.4 combo

Yes, I agree. 40mm for R-D1 is fine, but personally I prefer 35mm (eq 50mm), unfortunately I don't have 35mm.
I have M-Rokkor 40/2 and I like to use it from time to time.
Both from my M-Rokkor with F2

I got a 40/1.4 finally, really love it. Here is a shot I like but would be interested in alternative processing (from anyone actually).

I know what you mean. Up close I usually cheat a little to the left when shooting portrait mode or up a little in landscape.

Agree w. the framing problems, though my experience has been that it cuts off more of the bottom than I expect -- so I need to cheat down. marginal problem though, for me.

Firstly, great shot. I love the composition and the contrast.

My own processing is usually to shoot raw and then use Epson Raw as a plugin within CS2. Within Epson Raw I then decide on colour or sepia (as seen in the baby shots) and some exposure adjustment. Then save to CS2.

In CS2 I adjust levels and resize with some unsharp mask.

That's about it really 🙂

Perfect. I have never tried Epson PhotoRAW but I did now. I couldn't figure out how to get it as a plugin to CS4 (probably have to find the installation disk) but I see that I can get a really nice sepia effect with it.

I have been shooting RAW + B/W jpg (which is what my earlier image was) then adding a little contrast. I couldn't get anything quite like your PP though (now perhaps I can get closer).

I find that Epson Raw, though it looks a little dated, does the best job with the R-D1 files and the sepia is spot on. The colour shots also have a special 'old colour film' look IMHO.

The monkey shots show a colour that I can never get with my 20D or E-P1 - it is totally R-D1 and Epson Raw (like the colours in back alley's last image).

No problem getting Epson RAW to load when double clicking an image (just set default program on windows). I thought that the plugin might be more useful but now I load the RAW files into Epson RAW and then export them for further processing in Lightroom or PS.

I overdid the first sepia conversions though .. I can see that I need to tone them down a bit .. actually having a second look when posted here it doesnt' look so bad. Yours are a bit lighter though -- probably had more light 🙂
