seriously...

this is just stoopid!

carrying rangefinders or dslrs...why no perfect bag?

how many people must own similar kits...2 of this body and 3 of these lenses...

carry 2 bodies with lenses attached and one or 2 more lenses...

i don't understand it...maybe if i was the only one in a frustrated search...but i am not alone in this quest.

i think it's a f'king manufacturer conspiracy...to keep us looking and buying and looking and buying...

Timbuk2 classic messenger with snoop camera insert. I can carry 2 M bodies with lenses attached and 4 other lenses...

We need a good backpack option too. Or, we just have to really bite the bullet and take this one body, one lens thing seriously ang ditch the bag.

Domke F2 will hold a ton of gear. The F6 for me is perfect. I also have an F8 for a small one body kit. They're all great.

+1

Timbukt2 messanger bag with inserts...

Right now I have a x100 and xp1 with 35 plus 18mm in the third insert position.

Gary

Ps forgot to mention I still have space to spare for more lenses plus another compartment area if I need to bring along a 15 inch laptop.

My beef with bag manufacturers is that all the bags are so goddamned fugly. Why do they have to scream "I'm a camera bag!" or worse yet "I have little to no aesthetic design".

The closest I can think of are the new Zkin backpacks or the classic Billinghams but they are pricey.

I like my bags to look good, is that too much to ask?

Yes, the Domke 803 will carry 2 bodies with lenses attached, and one more lens. It will even carry two more lenses, if one goes in a lens wrap.

Also the Domke F10 will hold 2 M bodies with lenses, if the lenses are not too bulky. And enough room is left over for another lens. I can even do this with a F5XB, again with compact lenses--say a Summaron, a collapsible Summicron, and a 90 Tele-elmarit.

Here's some gear in my F-10:

For what kit? The perfect bag depends on the kit you want to carry. Are you saying my 2-lens RF kit bag is the same as the bag/backpack for my Chamonix 2-lens with 6 holders kit?

And what about street vs landscape vs architecture vs still life/tabletop?

There is: the Think Tank Retrospective 5. Fits 2 rangefinders and lenses and is a joy to carry around and use. I love it.

I have several, Joe, but you don't like them .... Last Sat, I carried this one:

Here is another one that you know well:

I had an idea the other day:

Joe should buy the bag first and then find the perfect kit for the bag ! :)

I don't know... I'm with Joe. I can't seem to find that perfect bag. Just got a Crumpler 6 million and I like it, but it's far from perfect. I'll probably keep searching, but not tell my wife...

As a slight ( but related ) divergence: when I was a young one and used to play Dungeons and Dragons, there was a magic item called the "bag of holding". It was just a small pouch, but it could magically fit a ton of things in it, and it never got heavy! The perfect camera bag, perhaps.;)

You are looking at this all wrong Joe as what you really need is someone to carry all your gear and pass it to you when needed, that leaves you free to concentrate on the creative process.
A sort of photo Sherpa :)

When it's cold I just use my jacket. The Think Tank bag looks nice. Someone in another bag thread posted a link to an inexpensive Olympus bag that is very similar.

well...

well...

You can have one made. Talked to a leather worker, gave him the dimensions from my old Billingham, made a few adjustments, added some pockets inside and out for film, iPad & passport, spec'd the material (Horween Chromexel on the outside, horsehide on the inside), and one month later it shows up, hand made in Utah. This one has room for a 5Dii + 2 lenses, or an RF Kit, or my Rolleiflex plus all the accoutrements.
