why isnt there iso800 or iso1600 chrome film?

let say if we dont push any film, why is it that the main manufacturers dont make high speed chrome? :(
i love chrome...

Maybe because the original intent of the slide was to project the pictures on a big screen and they wanted to "WOW the Crowd" that were viewing them with bright and bold colors...just my thoughts...

Here's a shot with some slightly expired Ektachrome 1600.

whooo real nice colours
can one still get that film?

In Japan, yes.

Haven't seen it here. I think it's also called Ektachrome Panther. Perhaps it was designed for astronomical photography - auroras and what not.

You could buy some Fujichrome 400 and send it to Dwayne's Photo for a 1 and 2 stop push. See if you like the results.

Jim-great picture!

B&H lists the Kodak P1600 but says out of stock
Samy's lists it, not sure if they have it
B&H shows 12 E6 chromes at ASA 400 from Kodak & Fuji.
Maybe we need Raid to run a test. Grinning! Super fast lenses & pushed Chrome!

Ooh, I love the look of that. I've been wanting to get some of that Provia 400X and push it a couple stops, but it's pretty expensive so I'm waiting for the right opportunity.

I've pushed 400x to 800 before, but it was more expensive and took much longer to develop. The overall look for outdoor shooting was fine, but the colorcast of indoor light was really ugly. Same for the Ektachrome 1600. I'm sure you could filter it out, but why bother?

As a side note, I've really noticed that slower speed slide film like Velvia 50 or Ektachrome 64, is less likely to exaggerate color casts, but Provia 400x looks bad under incandescent lights. This sucks 'cause I would like to use it for shooting indoors, at bars.

I believe there was an Agfachrome 1000 as well. For sure there was an Agfacolour 1000, as I remember prints from that. In addition, there was a GAF 1000 (maybe 800??) chrome.

That sure is a nice pic the_jim...I too miss the high speed chromes. Remember when we had Scotchrome and Fujichrome 1000?

Bummer. We're all going to have to buy Canon 5D bodies for pub pictures.

If I had the cash, I'd buy up Samy's stock.
