Why keeping SOLD items listed?

:angel:Sorry, I know someone posted the same questions a while ago but I couldn’t find that thread again.
Like many folks here, I very much enjoy perusing the Classifieds section. It would be so much more enjoyable to view the stuff for sale if the stuff that has been already sold unobtrusively disappeared from the list. There is a button that makes sold stuff disappear and I would kindly ask every lucky seller to use it, pleeeease?
I just don’t get the purpose of typing a big "SOLD" into the item heading and then leaving it for everyone to admire.. oh, wait, did I just answer my own question? 🙂
C'mon sellers, the Classifieds can be even better if we all stick with the program.

I believe that reason was a reference for market prices.

To have the best of both words, knowing what is still available while being able to also check the price from past sales, there would need to be some sort of filtration method.

I don't mind it. It gives me some idea of what certain gear is selling for.

I always wondered that too. I generally delete my stuff when it sold.

It wouldn't be very hard from a database standpoint to default the listing to only show stuff that hasn't sold, and then require someone to check a box if they want to see sold items. That's basically what ebay does with the "show completed listings" checkbox.

It's a nice way to guage the market if implemented correctly, but when the showcase items at the bottom of the page are marked "sold", it sorta defeats the purpose of it.

The purpose of the "SOLD!" headline is to let people know that PM'ing about the sold the item is pointless. I have deleted sold items only to have another half dozen pm's and emails come through. Also, it's a reminder to procrastinators that 'you snooze, you lose'. I have noticed some ads are left up for months after the item is sold. And they aren't marked sold.

Once the seller presses the "Sold It!" link, the item is not deleted but rather is no longer displayed in the recently posted page. All the thus tagged items can still be looked up easily via a the "Search" text box, I do it all the time.

I mark most of my ads as SOLD for a few hours to let everyone know they are gone -- often there are various person still inquiring at some level or other, curious, or whatever -- they find it useful, and so do I. I do think relegating them to the proper category of sold merchandise within 24 hours is certainly a good practice.

I always try to mark my items as sold as soon as possible just as a courtesy to others who are trying to sell items.

The sooner I mark my ad as sold, the sooner it comes down out of the cue of recently listed items in the photo section. The sooner my ad leaves, the sooner someone else's ad gets bumped up into that photo section where it will draw the most attention.

There are ads there now that really should be marked as sold so that someone else's ad gets more exposure.

I have always clicked on the "sold" button, for the same logical and neighborly reasons several of you have elaborated. Tonight I sold my friend's M5, and simply wrote "SOLD" in the bottom comments. Why? I guess I was just happy for myself and the buyer, and I wanted others to know. It'll come down in a day or two, promise. Anyway, it's not really interfering in the main queue.

there should be a area for items that have sold so you can look back at prices and stuff
