posting "pm sent" on an ad. it drives me nuts both as a seller and a buyer. you know...for whatever my opinion matters

If the items are priced reasonably and desirable, then buyers will find you by email, PM, "PM sent", or whatever!

The best camera is one that still works!
I find 'available to CONUS only' far more annoying!

I've been tempted in the past to write "available to Japan only", but that would leave me with about 8 potential buyers ...

Seems to me a that this is a fair discussion point. If members would prefer some clarification of RFF etiquette on the matter then why not discuss and hopefully come to an agreement.
As others have said I have posted PM Sent in the past as I assumed this was the standard here, going by face value at an rate. Although I tend to take the sellers price and overall costs as their final price with, unless stated, no room for haggling.
I understand the belief that 'PM Sent' may affect future interest and would be quite happy to refrain if this is deemed the case. Clarity never hurts in such matters.

I guess 'PM sent' is a relic from the past; from before we had classifieds and when the number of private messages in in- and out-boxes was limited to 20 total. You'd just put a FS thread in one of the forums, and the first one to express interest would answer with 'PM sent' to exchange details.. with a high level of probability that the receiver's inbox would already be full to the brim. And of course 'PM sent' isn't as much of a nuisance as a string of 'PM not sent' messages littering a classified
As to first come, first serve, I find it a basic form of decent behavior, unless explicitly stated otherwise. If you want to consider offers of more buyers at the same time, an auction seems more appropriate.

I hate 'If I hadn't already bought one just like this and my mum hadn't just gone bankrupt and I wasn't left-handed then I'd buy this in an instant... good luck with the sale'.

I usually post ''pm sent'' even when I'm just enquiring about an object, not yet commiting to a purchase. I don't see the drawback of this even for the seller. If I see an item that has many ''pm sent'' comments I assume that it's a hot item and will be less inclined to try to bargain on the price.
What really worries me, though, is how people nowadays (not just on the internet) are less and less willing to deal with minor annoyances. Moreover, there seems to be a consensus that people have to be penalized for their annoying behaviour.
Personally, I get annoyed by lots of things and people on a daily basis but I deal with it. I realize that this is more my problem then theirs and I probably am also annyoing to other people from time to time. If I chose not to have social contact with annyoing people I'd be a very lonely guy...and probably single! Just kidding, of course! My gf's great!

Hey, that's no fun! You're supposed to battle it out so that we've got something to watch.. If we all start to behave like grown ups, what would be the point in surfing RFF every day?

I'll use 'PM sent' most times because I've had messages not show up, end of story. If the person it's addressed to works up a high dudgeon, too bad, they're free ignore a potential sell as they will, but at least they got the message.

Yeah. And nobody here deals in "relics from the past", only the latest iPads and flat screen HDTVs, eh?
I guess the "relic from the past" argument is very apt.
