Why so many R3a's and no R2a's?

I've been on the hunt for a used R2a but I haven't even seen one in weeks. All I see popping up are R3a's and R2's. What gives? Do they know I'm looking so they hide them?? I'm trying to keep patient, but dropping the cash for a new one is starting to look more appealing!

I think that the R3a is just more popular. 1:1 finder, 40mm framelines, what's not to like? I plan on getting one eventually, just because I sometimes go into sketchy neighbourhoods that I just don't feel comfortable taking my Leicas into.

Perhaps more of the R3a were sold because of the 1:1 finder. IMHO this "feature" is the camera's downfall since even the 40mm framelines are difficult to see for some users. Furthermore, magnification is no substitute for movement when it comes to EBL.
I agree with ManGo's comments! I'd guess there are more disappointed R3a buyers who turn around and put them back on the market, while the R2a buyers are more content with their choice, and keep 'em. 🙂

I sold my R3a and moved up to my Leica M6.

The trade off of slightly more accurate focusing of longer lenses in exchange of usability with wide lenses was not worth it to me. With the M6 I have a longer EBL finder with 35 and somewhat useable 28mm framelines.

Here in the UK the R3a was release a good few months before the R2a so I guess this would make a difference.

There have been a few threads here on the RFF about the visability of framelines and people whe have glasses. I guess maybe some went for the R3a and found that the R2a would suite them better.

I tried an R2 and R3a to compare the finders, the R2a suited me better, if the R2a was available then (last January) I'd have gone for it. Ended up with some German built thing a month or so later. Still wonder about an R2a for another body though.
