As I look at used Leica lens at various dealers / sites, I have begun to wonder why so many used Summarits. It just seems that for a new series, there are a lot offered. Any insights would be appreciated.

Which dealers? Can you give us any links? Outside of Popflash, I haven't seen any used Summarits anywhere.

KEH has a 35mm Summarit and two 90mm Summarits.

It seems to be the nature of the beast with Leica's lens offerings. Specifically with the Summarits, there may be the perception that they're "beginner" lenses with a built-in assumption on the buyer's part that they will eventually trade up to the "real thing". However I think a goodly number of people simply like to try "the latest" and find it isn't for them.
Within a year of the Wide Angle Tri-Elmar's introduction, I began to notice a spike in their used availability too. It's been similar with the 75mm Summicron ASPH lens (although many seem to find the the 75mm FOV is not their thing). Why I recently saw an ad for a used 24mm Summilux lens. That's a pretty quick turnaround, especially for a $7,000 (US) item.
That works for me. I love a healthy used market!

I tried a 35mm summarit when I was at B&H a few months ago. The focus helix was very loose and didn't have the feel of my other Leica glass. I opted for a used 35 cron Asph a few weeks later for less money.

I have a 75mm Summarit which I love. The build is just as good as my Sumiluxes. No, you can't have it!

I have a similar story. Bought the 35 Summarit and wasn't that impressed with it in terms of the images - something lacking. Bought a 35 Cron ASPH instead and haven't looked back

We had all four for review and Frances was so impressed with the 50mm that she bought it.

Roger,
Couldn't you just have "hung onto it for a while longer for more tests"..........................??? ;-)

Because are modern, reliable, sharp lenses, not too expensive, in the same league of Zeiss Ikon ZM or VC lenses.
Ciao.

I bought a new 75mm summarit after looking for a used one for a couple of weeks without success.
Wonderful built, similar to my other Leica lenses.
