Why Stephanie Needs a Scanner

Pepto, there was no need for your tantrum. JUST DON'T READ THE THREAD! It's really, really simple. Nothing FORCES you to either read or reply.

Is Stephanie hurting you? Is she hurting the forum? Are those who replied to her offering opinions, advice on scanners, etc., (trying to help a member) offending you? If you say yes to any of the above, then take it up with the moderator in private. Or take up yoga and deep breathing to clear your mind.

I'd have sent you a PM, but wanted Joe to consider my thoughts.

Since my arrival here post-dates Stephanie's by a few months there may be some history I'm missing ... but this thread seems to have become needlessly nasty for no apparent reason.
Just my $0.02.

Someone offered me something that I can use until I get one. I *will* have the money for a scanner...I just don't right now. Heh. Three of the games are sold (that's $100, you know) and all I have to do is wait for the guys to get me the money. The other two are possibly going up on the 'bay, which should get me a bit more. If I need more I'm selling my (cringe) full set of Metal Gear Solid 2 McFarlane action figures. Yes, I have those. But this stuff isn't as important to me as a scanner right now. Photography is more important to me than anything in the world and I can't keep hold of kiddy stuff for so long.

But I still have my Gameboy Micro. I just got that thing and you'll be prying it from my cold, dead fingers. Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II in the palm of my hand is just too nifty. 😀

What a relief...we can all rest a little easier now.

And as an update for the lab story...I went back this morning, thinking that my sister could have done it, and she said she doesn't know how! So here I am, again, with no photos. This is so frustrating. It's apparent that they need more help...maybe I should offer to work for them and run that machine...things might get done a little faster that way.

Heck that's an idea !! No need for a scanner and you could get paid ... !

And ...

Oh well ...

Oh no...I'd still need a scanner. The scans from them won't give me anything above good 5x7 prints...probably not even that. But yes, the extra money I'd be making by having the second job would be very, very nice...I could afford more of the stuff I wanted and save a heck of a lot more for school.

What kind of equipment do they have at the lab?

The Fuji at Wal-Mart sometimes doesn't like my B&W negatives. I don't know why. I figured that maybe they could do it...apparently they're just not interested in good customer service. I really should apply there.

Stephanie,
Check this out:

Scanning 35mm Slides with the Frontier Printer
Not many people know about this, but the Frontier printer can also produce high resolution scans (3000 pixels per inch) from 35mm slides and negatives for a remarkably low cost. (Costco's price was 59 cents each!) Over a one week period we had 100 of Larry’s old slides scanned to create a new Film Gallery and two galleries of images for sale on BermanArt.com. The scanned files were 4535x3035 pixels and were saved as 12 to 19 megabyte high quality Jpeg’s. These opened in Photoshop as a 39 megabyte PSD files. Not all Frontiers’ will output at this resolution; it will depend on the IC (image control) software in use. Ask the operator to scan for a 10x15 inch print and that will set the unit to output at its highest quality.

This is what I got out of their scanners. I have more shots, but the scanner cropped them strangely.

adam.jpg is how they actually came to me on the disk. I have no clue how they scanned them, but the color correction was apparently weird.

I desaturated the others. One has a bit of curves adjustment. On adam2.jpg, you can see that the scanner was cropping wrong. Not good.

So needless to say, the lenses are doing rather well...it's the scanning that's the problem.

Thanks for the info on the Frontier, RJ. I think you just solved my medium format scanning issues.

Great! Most lab techs probably don't know much about these other features.

My local ritz camera can develop c41 medium format (the girl found a cartridge in the back, hidden under the sink), but she tells me the minilab there cannot scan.. only 35mm. It's a fuji frontier, prints are beautiful, but the scans are horrible.

So can it actually scan mf?

According to the brochure I downloaded from Fuji's web site (http://www.fujifilm.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/proPhotoProductFrontierBrochures.jsp), the 390 can handle 120/220 negative and reversal film if they have the right carrier.

I'll have to ask my local labs if they can do this and go with the one who answers "yes."

Trius,
in this case the ignore list is surely not the adaeqate suggestion. If you are one of those helpful guys here I don't doubt that you know what you do, I don't care.

But please don't tell those to go elsewhere , who dare to criticize S.Brim's behaviour .
That's arrogant in my perception.

Everybody here can read what he wants and can comment it if he feels like, even if it is sometimes not possible to keep the comment as peaceful and nice as others want to have it..

Peaceful and nice not at any price

The essence of the first freedom... the true meaning of "forum".

Yes, everyone can do what they wish, that is the nature of freedom of speech and a forum such as this. My point was simply that, on his first post, on his first day of membership, Pepto chose to assign a motive to Stephanie. In essence, he accused Stephanie of begging for a handout.

I think that he might want to either be helpful/constructive or just read and not say anything. My kids learned to hold their tongues when they were about 10 years old, and to be more kind than mean. I simply offered my opinion, which is OK, right?
