Wide angle for Nikon S2

I'm looking for a wide lens for the Nikon S2. I was looking at the Voigtlander 25mm .. looks great but at $400++, is that expensive for such a lens? There seem to be very few around that I can find..any hints appreciated. Thanks.
 
You really think the CV is expensive? Wides are always the most expensive to produce and the CV's are wonderful. Any original Nikkor wide if you can find them cost a fortune. I have a 21mm for my S3 and its excellent and well made.
 
the s-mount VC skopar 21/4 is a superb performer,
the Nikkor 28 3.5 is superb, i don't know if it's wide enough, not supereasy to find in great condition.
the nikkor 25/4 is exotic beautiful but rather expensive (with vintage signature)
the VC skopar 25/4 is also a very good lens,

i got a 21/4 for sale in the classifieds, for extremely low price, if you are interested let me know. i love the lens, but I'm downgrading my wideangles so something has to go

I have the Voigtlander 25mmf4 for my S3 and I love it, the $400.00
is the going price for those guy's, I got mine off ebay for$ 250.00
and that included the finder as well, but there hard to find used for
some reason, the guy's above pretty much covered it with the
different models.

I have used a Nikkor 35mm. F/2.5 for over a half-century on my S2, and added a Cosina/Voightlander 21mm F/4, a few years ago.
Great results from both.
 
I can highly recommend nikkor 35mm 2.5. One of my first 35mm's and I still have it and use it when I don't need fast 35mm. Results are sharp with pleasing bokeh. Even has that swirly bokeh when wide open at minimum focus.
 
For the money, you really can't beat the CV lenses for Nikon rangefinders.
I have the CV 21 and 25, and based on my results, think they are among the great lens bargains of our time.

As can be seen in RFF, there are very many different opinions about what can be considered a reasonable cost for a lens, depending on the individual's priorities and financial situation. You can almost certainly get a good Nikon 28mm lens for well under $400, if you are patient, and again there are differences of opinion about the relative worth of the original Nikon lenses and the more modern CV ones.

If 35mm will do the trick for you, have you considered a FSU Jupiter 12 in Kiev mount? They cost next to nothing, are probably the best made of the FSU lenses, and typically provide excellent results. And they will fit on your Nikon. I do recommend removing the ring around the mount (3 screws) and filing or sanding down the back edge of it a bit, as the Kiev mount lenses sometimes will scratch the Nikon front plate otherwise.
