Wides for NEX 7?

I'm looking for a 21mm equivalent (or wider maybe) for my NEX 7. There is the 16mm prime with wide adapter, but it's not well regarded on the 7. There is the forthcoming wide zoom from Sony, but it appears to be around £600 which is too expensive for me.

I'm not bothered about AF, so any ideas?

Cheers

Had considered the voigtlanders, but understand there is color shift, which is a pain. I'm interested in the samyang 14mm, massive compared to the voigtlanders though...

You may be out of luck at that point unless you find an ultrawide SLR lens. CV 15 works, but I find the distortion a bit strong. My widest is a 21.

Who says so?
I am pretty satisfied with that combination. It's my mostly used super-wide set-up ATM and it even reaches down to 135equiv. of 18mm!

I will get the Heliar 4.5/15 in a couple of days and then be able to compare.

I've read mixed reviews, I'd like to use the Sony to be honest, it's cheap and small, if its good enough, then that'll do!

The lens has practically zero distortion.

Let me clarify.
In my opinion, the exaggeration of DOF of a 15, cropped, appears greater than that of a 21 on full frame.

If you're looking to try this out, my LTM 15 will gladly hit the block.

At least on the 3 and 5, there is nothing wrong with it, other than that it has poor corner performance at f/2.8 - it would have been better sold as a f/3.5. YMMV with the 7, whose sensor has additional issues with wides, but the samples I've seen did not show it.

Leica 16/2.8 R mount. I've used a CV 15 on my NEX-7 and it's pretty good but it needs to be cornerfixed. My Leica 24/2.8 M mount doesn't.

There are different types of distortion... there is certainly perspective distortion no?
That's not due to CV 15, though. The lens appears quite free of distortions in real-world use, although I have never studied any distortion measurements from it.

The perspective "extension" distortion is observed when you put a (wide angle) lens close to your subject. The close elements in the photo then appear relatively larger than distant ones when compared to the same field size photographed with a longer lens (narrower view, longer subject distance). You could make this effect disappear by adjusting your viewing distance accordingly. In practice, the viewing distance is typically maintained.

I concur. On a 135 film body the CV15 has no angle distortions. Of course, if you walk in near an object you get the above mentionend extension distortion.

The Sony 1.8/16 does not produce the same problems a CV Heliar15 does on the NEX-7.

An alternative would be a Tamron 3.5/17 (Adaptall-2). There are even A2-Emount-adapters available.

But since this is an SLR lens it's much bigger.
