Which wide for me?

I myself asked this question, at the time to buy a wide angle lens.
In order to decide I downloaded an image from the web, which was taken with the Heliar 12mm Lens. Then pasted it is Autocad (I am Architect) and calculated geometrically the frames for all other wides.
Here you can see yellow numbers, that represents the real length of the lens, in case you use Full Frame Film or Sensors, and the numbers in green, show the frames for DX sensors (1.5X Conversion Factor)

In other words, if you like the perspective that show the GREEN frame, you can get it using a 28mm with a Full Frame Camera, or a 19mm with a DX sensor camera.

Well I hope it can be usefull for someone else asking the previous question.

Interesting. I don't think it is an absolutely true comparison, the perspective changes more than just the crop. Imagine a telephoto lens: the compressing effect isn't present in a wideangle.

Perspective is mainly a function of where you are standing, I think.
The compression of a telephoto lens is partly the effect of the narrow field of view and partly the subjetc's distance form the camera. The size difference between something 1 meter and something 2 meters away is proportionally much greater than the difference between something 100 meters away and something at 150 meters.

Perspective is a function of relative distance rather than angle of view. The picture would work and if you stood in the same position. and used all the lenses then the perspective would stay the same. However, if you moved forward to make the people fill the frame with the 12mm rather than use a longer lens, then the perspective would change.

The problem is that most cameras have their own "interpretations"
of these lines depending on the minimum focus distance used to
calibrate them.

If you take a wide angle shot and select the area corresponding to the field of view of a telephoto, then enlarge that part to the size of the telephoto shot, the perspective is identical.

Ferider, I saw your link, and yes you are right, you have great frames in there including all posible lens.
In my test I omited some because I wanted a really wide lens, and finally I bought the 12 mm heliar!
By the way, I saw the Contax to M coverter: I have some questions for You:

Did you machined it yourself?

If so: I am interested in the measurements so that I can do my own.

Do you have the plans?
