Wife dropped my Nikon F5

So my wife was moving things around and dropped my F5 (for the second time) and now it has a nice dent in the prism. I turned it on and everything seems to be working fine but is there anything specific you would recommend me checking?

The biggest bonus Nikon gave to F5 users is the DP-30 finder which is made of titanium (That is why I said, it was very generous move indeed). Why a Titanium finder ? I have seen many "smash & dented" Nikons "mir.com"

You probably need to check focus (across the screen) to see if mirror or prism is misaligned.
I believe nikons are structurally soft on the outside with a strong frame on the inside - this is the best design for shock. But still, things can get misaligned, if not actually broken.

Don't be so sure. I have a darkroom that is not accessible from the living areas of the house but wifey feels compelled to go in there and "clean". 🙂

An F5? Probably make sure the surface on which it has fallen is not cracked or that your wife does not have a broken toe.

In seriousness, I would check focus and issues with the metering system.

thanks everyone. Ill check as soon as I get home. I looked on eBay and there was a decent one for 80 bucks plus shipping. luckily I got the F5 for 160. Id much rather not spend the money but if it needs to be fixed, Ill fix it.

I dont know where she could have dropped it honestly. It sat on a table for quite a while and one day I put my FM2 down to shoot with the F5 for a bit and there was a nice ding in it. We have carpet too so maybe she had it by the strap and it slammed into the table or something. I dont know. The other time I was on the computer editing and there was a very loud "thud" and there are very few things in the living room that could make that noise. My first thought was that she dropped the RZ67 but she said it was the F5.

This is the kind of sh#t my ex wife pulled on me.....she had dropped and broken various items belonging to me (and important to me) - it happened quite regularly. Then would refuse to even apologize. In fact when I chastised her for her actions, and for not apologizing, she would look me in the eye and said "I did not break it, it must have been you" This happened regularly - even when I was present at the time and saw her do it. Then she would turn and walk away leaving me fuming. Odd thing is we were not arguing at the time (but were afterwards of course). Cultural differences (she is Russian)? Sociopath? Narcissist? F#cked in the head? Still not sure. If you are doing better than this then you are doing better than I did. After feeling used and abused for years the best I could do in desperation in the end was to go to her wardrobe take out a great big pair of scissors and turn a couple of her favourite outfits into cleaning rags while she was away for a few days. Then I could say "I did not do it - it was not me. It must have been you." I guess I can smile about it now but it was not funny at the time.😡

Now you see I would have sliced the seams of her pants about three inches in the crotch. Not enough for her to notice when putting on, but enough to show when she is out.

Perhaps the underarms of any suits the same way.

Your ex sounds very special and I'm happy for you that she is out of your life. No one deserves such abuse.
