Doesn't the F5's shutter check itself?
not sure
I think she is gently nudging you to newer digital equipment![]()
Time to upgrade. The camera, I mean.
If she wants to pay for it, ill take a D800
Check the groundglass which could fall out of alignment, the F series Nikons were build to withstand almost anything. At least drops to the floor during assignments. Maybe your wife loves the F5 and you surprised her fondling the camera![]()
Shes got a Yashica Mat EM and a Nikon N4004. Not fancy but for ~80 for the pair, its worth it. Plus I can use em too
Buy a new camera and charge it to home maintenance.
I dont think I will need too. It seems as if the F5 is doing just fine thankfully

My wife dropped my M7 on gravel and it got a scratch on the top plate, no disfunction though.
When I sold it she said she was a little sad because that sratch marked a particular moment of our life that she remembers

I hope she'll not do this again on your new M7

It does. But that self-test will only detect a deviation from the set time or a difference between the first and second half of the shutter run. Capping and bounce or other non-uniform irregularities may still sneak past that check.

I put my F5 on a table at the last Camera Show, I think two people picked it up-- another dealer had one NIB for $250, no one picked it up.
It was much more painful when a repairman dinged my mint black Leica II and denied it.
All relative?

Don't let the camera try to get even. F5 vs human being is no fair game.

Offer to "move" her sewing machine if she ever looks at one of your cameras.

So my wife was moving things around and dropped my F5 (for the second time) and now it has a nice dent in the prism. I turned it on and everything seems to be working fine but is there anything specific you would recommend me checking?
Once is an accident; twice carries intent.
Also, given the F5 is built like a brick, have you checked to make sure your floor isn't dented? Maybe it wasn't really about the camera after all, but new flooring for the house? Hmmmm....???

My other half never touches my cameras. I never touch her french leather bags. Perfect harmony

You can always offer another of your Leica to "mark" another important event of her life.

Wife`s hearing. Mine is under specific instructions not to touch my stuff, EVER. They seem to have some nesting qualities that promote moving thing around and then you can never find them.
The best defense is for you to not leave things around. Hard to do I know.

I think, I bought a mint in box one in 1997 for $1750.00
160 is amazing!

yeah it was super inexpensive. eBay can be a great place if you dont rush.
also the roll of film I shot through it came out great. No problems and she hasnt messed with my junk since but now I gotta figure out why her little n4004 isnt working
I should hopefully have a new toy tomorrow as well. Wifey doesnt know though. I found a Nikon D700 locally that I will be able to pick up for the cost of selling my D300. I black taped the front of the D300 in front of the wife so when I pick up the D700 ill black tape it and she will never notice hahahaha
