I have an Elmarit 28 2.8
It is the first version with 9 elements and the rear group is very long.
Will this lens work on an M8.?

My M5s need red dots!
Possibly it won't, as the rear element may block the meter or intrude in the shutter curtains. Remember that this lens was designed for the meterless M bodies in the early sixties, and like the Angulon type, it simply won't meter with later, metered bodies.
You can always consult with Leica about this... But I'd bet they'll say the same.

What Francisco said; also, even if it fits mechanically, the placement of its rear element, very close to the sensor, is not likely to project adequate light to the edges and corners.
