The title says it all. Can the Leica Dr lens "work" in normal range on aEepson R-D1 camera?

I don't see why not, the DR does not go back into the camera all that far. Be careful of course.

You probably won't be able to use the googles though as the rangefinder windows aren't located in the same places as on a leica.

The Dual Range Summicron will not work correctly on Leica digital bodies without modification. What's different about the Epson? Why can't Leitz get their digital right?
A Rigid Summicron from the same period with presummably the same optics will work fine on the Leica bodies & therefore should work on the Epson. If you are sold on the D.R. optical module, find a Rigid with broke optics and swtich them with the D.R. module.

My DR doesn't mount on my Bessa T. Maybe that helps.

Thanks Marcelo for your post and especially the photos. The lens will arrive tomorrow-I believe. Will carefully give it a go.

According to the User's Guide (page 17) the Summicron 50/2 Dual Range "cannot be used" on the R-D1. FWIW.

I think we are talking about two different things:
1. Can the DR mount on the RD1 WITH GOGGLES? from what I have read, no
2. Can the DR mount on the RD1 WITHOUT GOGGLES? probably, but lets ask
Umcelinho, since he said "yes" (??????????)
...... or maybe I have no idea what I am talking about .....

The DR lens arrived and it does indeed work on the R-D1 without goggles. Marcelo is correct! Not sure about the comment of LCT and page 17 of the users guide. Couldn't find the guide on line. After a brief filling the goggles and the lens will work on the M7. Needless to say, I and a very happy camper. The Lens is everything I have read about.

The close focusing cam on the DR is the problem on the M8. If the lens cavity is bigger, or different in the R-D1 or other camera , it will work. Hit & Miss
You can Modify the Cam, but the Close focus goes away.

Good to know. The R-D1s user's guide can be downloaded here: http://tinyurl.com/44otybk. See page 15.The DR lens arrived and it does indeed work on the R-D1 without goggles. Marcelo is correct! Not sure about the comment of LCT and page 17 of the users guide...

yep, it's mounted without goggles. I've never noticed any difference if mounting it with focus set to infinity or closer made any difference, also.
the goggles won't fit anyway because of the different distance from the viewfinder to the rangefinder window. I've never tried pressing the button on the top to get the close focusing mechanism to work whilst mounted on the r-d1, so no idea if it would damage the camera or the lens. even if it worked, it would be pretty hard to focus without a guide.
