Just a tought - given the limited ed sonnar in s already exists and that cosina have experience of building both c and s bodies and the rumours of a nikon Rf digi what would be the chance of their being a joint Nik/zeiss dvelopment?? Nikon already has sensors ziess a body ZI and both have a few new c/s lenses and with cosinas ability to retool for odd runs of c/s lens....maybe??

The Zeiss Party Line is that there's probably not enough money in a digi RF to bother, and the only reason I can see for Nikon to build one would be as a prestige/advertising project in a limited edition.

Mr. Kobayashi is on record as disliking digital: the RD-1 was a private project by other engineers. He did not kill it, but I'd be surprised if he would instigate a new digital project.

Besides, many people actively dislike the ridiculously complicated Contax-derived S mount, and the choice of lenses is miserably small (limited by demand and the very small lens throat), so who would buy one? A small coterie of Nikon addicts and those who like weird cameras...

Cheers,

R.

Hmmmm..... so either I like weird cameras and/or belong to a coterie of Nikon addicts - I do not know which one of the alternatives feels best !?:)

Don´t forget the third party. I have read that Sony (Konica- Minolta) has bought some of the Contax G patents and designs. May be there will be a new competitor in market,
but not with Contax G mount but "M" -mount

I guess the answer is who wouldnt buy one - with the right price points and correct advertising and a name almost anything is possible - when it comes to digital people are not as slavish as with film - how many have changed a perfectly serviceable film slr system for a EOS or Nikon digi. Marketed properly a digi rangefinder with any mount and the right lens range would sell (my belief) admitedly in low number compared to dSLR with there limited choice of mediocre super zooms

I dont think zeiss have the marketing ability to make it a reality but maybe nikon do

yes totally all pie in the sky ... but so was the idea of an RF renaissance 10 years ago
