Hi Folks,

this might be a stupid question, but here goes anyway:

I tried to mail-order the 28/3.5 from the "largest European Voigtländer distributor", and they said it would be replaced by a new one at the end of the year.

Has anybody heard anything along these lines, or was my would-be-supplier simply referring to the new Ultron and mixing things up? 😕

(Got a 28/3.5 from somewhere else now, BTW 😀)

Well, the Ultron went from 1.9 to 2.0. So, in line with the odd-ball max aperture line choices, it could well be a 3.4 or 3.6 🙂

I'm taking a serious look at the new Ultron (Ultron-M™)? But, you know, if Sean Reid gets a bad sample, it's done for. Then the used prices will go down...

...hmm...sounds like a plan...

OK, thanks, so I guess no one has heard anything. Judging the level of competence of my information source, they were probably mixing this up with the 28/2 anyway...

Not necessarily true to say. It seems Cosina keeps things pretty close to the vest except for a few real insiders.

I guess that the only people who really know are Tom A, maybe Stephen, and they won't talk. Heck, Tom probably is sitting there with the new M 28 Skopar now. I bet he has even burned up a few rolls of film with it.

I think maybe you place to much strength in his reviews. They really only impact M8 and RD-1 users.

In any case, I recommend not to worry and use the LTM mount version, as long as available. Really, really great lens, certainly the best 28 I have ever used.

Roland.

Right you are! I have had the 28f2.0 since late May and had to a/black tape the name out and b/lurk around shooting with it. It was officially released on July 20th, with deliveries starting in mid-August.
There would really be no reason for Cosina to put out another 28, at least not for the foreseable future. The Ultron 28f2.0 is not that much bigger than the old 28f3.5 and with a f2 maximum at that. It is also very, very good! I did run some tests with a bunch of other 28's (including the f3.5 VC, Biogon 28/2.8, Ultron 28f1.9, Elmarit 28f2.8 and some more) and the 28f2.0 is clearly a better lens. Very impressive at f2.0 and close in (0.7 meter) - better than any other 28 I have ever used!

But that 28/3.5 is just so wonderfully small if you want an ultra compact lens.
I plan to buy the new 28. I may just end up keeping both.

the 28/3.5 is tiny and it's very sharp - it would be a shame to completely drop it from the cosina line up.
some of us shoot primarily outdoors in daylight and don't mind a slower lens.

I'll second that. AND I even used it for a (not too dark) department store staircase today, f/3.5 at 1/60 s on Iso 100 film... I'm so looking forward to developing that first Delta 100... 😀
