Haha, my thoughts exactly. These are not exactly profound insights about Eggleston.
I do love looking at those pictures again, though. Eggleston is maybe the purest practitioner of my artistic philosophy, which is basically that you don't need a back story, you don't need a theme, you don't need a message, you just need to see clearly and let the subject speak through you. People talk a lot about his use of color, with good reason, but for me he's all about framing and geometry. And of course he's very funny—I prefer his dry wit to, say, the hammier pleasures of Elliot Erwitt.
