Windows 7 and older scanners (Nikon, Konica Minolta)

All you have to do is to install the Vuescan first - even a trial version. It will embed the needed drivers in the system. Later, Minolta Scan Dual IV works like a charm with Minolta Software. 🙂

I just did that and even though the Minolta Scan Dual IV now keeps the scanner light steady the Minolta software still doesn't open. The message says it won't open because of error 21. My system is Windows 7, 64bit.
It´s a pity I can't make my scanner work on Windows 7 with the original software I was used to work with.

I'm in the SCSI hole. I have an LS-30, which I've been running on an Adaptec AV-2906 on XP with Vuescan. I'm replacing the failing computer with a 64 bit Win 7 box. I don't change computers often, so I wanted to stick with the most advanced stuff I can get, rather than back down to 32 bit Win 7 or XP. It appeared the pain of getting a SCSI port on a 64 bit machine was more than the LS-30 justified. I'll be selling the LS-30 and taking delivery of a new Plustek USB scanner soon.

That is rather bizarre. Do you have any printers/multifunctional devices plugged in through usb? Try uninstalling their drivers first, and then connecting the Minolta.

I have performed the trick described in my previous post with three scanners since (Scan Dual III and two IV's), both on Win7 32 & 64 bit and it worked like a charm...

Thanks for the tip. I just installed a trial version of Vue Scan 32 bit on my Win 7 32bit laptop and the original Minolta scanning software now works for my Minolta 5400 v1. No idea what will happen when the Vue can trial period ends. At least I now know I have some options for the future when my old PC XP pro dies.

Actually, you don't have to worry as it will all work as it should. Vuescan installs its drivers, but you don't need to run the software at all. You can have the drivers forever... Without using Vuescan even once.

I tried to do this on a new computer I bought 2 days ago. Nothing else is installed there yet except Elements 9 and, now, PS6.
Actually I decided to buy Vuescan but I miss the ease of function and speed I had already achieved with the Minolta software. I guess I'll have to preserve the older computer under Windows XP until I can figure out how to make Vuescan work speedily.

I have NikonScan running fine with my 9000 and Win7 64bit Pro. (Never really liked VueScan).

It has been a while since I did the setup, but I followed these instructions and I recall it going pretty smoothly.

I ran this same setup and can use a Nikon 9000 ED on Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit just fine. I use the Nikon Scan 4 software for scanning as it seemed easiest to use and did everything I wanted.

I'm happy to report that this still works like a charm!

I had a major computer crash because of a rootkit virus that required formatting of my hard drive and reinstallation of all my software. The computer is a Dell running Windows 7, 64-bit, and when I first got it in 2011, I had trouble getting my Konica/Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 v.1.1 to run. I read on this forum about the trick of installing Vuescan, which I did, and the Dimage ran just fine up until the crash.

Reinstalling the scanner today, I ran into the same problem. I downloaded a trial of Vuescan and my Dimage is up and running again with the original software.🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

I've noticed that SCSI (particularly SCSI-II, as used by old scanners) has been an issue with Windows 7 64-bit. I found last year some unofficial drivers that work with Adaptec AHA-2930 cards and W7x64; with that you can use any SCSI scanner that Vuescan supports. The W7+Adaptec+Vuescan combo allowed me to use a circa-1998 UMAX Powerlook 3000 on my brand-new workstation without a problem! If anyone has a need I can put the drivers up on a dropbox or something.
