Windows 7 Can't Find My Epson 4990

Time to contact Epson support. There may be a registry entry that is corrupt, missing, etc.

I just checked the settings for my Epson V500 and had the same issues after trying to connect my scanner for first time.
The compatibility mode settings are "Windows XP, Service pack 2" although my PC runs on Windows 7 64 bit.

I did set compatibility mode as "Windows XP, Service pack 2," but it still doesn't work. Guess I will have to call Epson.

XP is up to Service Pack 3. Is that an option in the compatibility thingie?
All the more reason to stick with what works. I suppose I may have to upgrade by 2014 when XP will officially become an orphan. Lightroom 4 already "requires" Windows 7. Bah! Humbug!

Thanks again to all who offered help. I finally got the thing fixed after about 90 minutes on the phone with Epson support and trying several different things. What actually worked was taking everything out of the Epson folder except the escndv folder.

One other thing I forgot to mention -- I had an HP OfficeJet all-in-one, which included a scanner, connected to my computer wirelessly. I had to remove that to get my Epson Scan to work. Now that it's working, I will reconnect the HP and see if that makes it stop working.

Presently scanning some 4x5 transparencies of architectural work from my pre-digital days that I want to include in a new portfolio of large (12x18) prints.
