I have a Nikon 4000 Coolscan and am keeping alive a Windows XP PC. I'd like to use it with Windows 7 but have been lead to believe this isn't possible. I've searched for work-arounds but no luck.
Anyone have any success?
Thanks in advance

Does VueScan run on Windows 7? I have used that with the Nikon 5000 Coolscan (on a Mac), but I would assume if it runs on Windows 7 you should be good to go.

Does VueScan run on Windows 7?...
No personal experience, but their site lists support for the Nikon 5000ED on Windows 7/64bit but makes no mention (assume no support) for Windows 7/32bit.

Thanks Guys - and apologies - it's a 4000 ED coolscan - I'm rechecking the Nikon site right now. So far no luck but I will try Vuescan site as well

Timmyjoe - looks like it does support the 4000 - thanks again - I'll give it a try
Anyone tried it with the 4000?

It's not a complete solution but if using only one computer is desired, you could try running Windows XP in a virtual box within Windows 7. I do this for my scanners, except with Ubuntu.

Thanks Chris - I'll explore this if the Vuescan solution doesn't work

Do the trial of Vuescan to check if it works. You'll get watermarks, but you'll know whether if it works before you buy.

I am using Vuescan with Windows 8 on a Coolscan V. Works great.
I'm running my Coolscan 5000 on Windows 7 using Nikon Scan. If I recall correctly, I installed the version for Vista that supports both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Nikon mentions somewhere on their website that they tested that version of Nikon Scan on Windows 7 and it run fine, but they cannot guarantee that all functions work i.e. Windows 7 is not officially supported.
Windows 7 works fine for me except for one thing. That is that unless you do a bit of a workaround ICE does not work. The workaround is to first preview scan all images to be scanned with ICE turned on, and then main scan those images with ICE turned on. ICE needs to be turned on for both preview scans and main scans. If you don't do a preview scan with ICE turned on, scanning will end in an error.
