I apologise if this has already been covered in the forum, I did a search but could not find anything.

I am looking to purchase a cheap wireless flash trigger from ebay for use on the X100. I cannot find anything that says it works with the X100, but I understand that Nikon fit triggers would work.

Does anyone know if this is correct. If so which Nikon models would be compatible.

Thanks

Jerry

I use a generic ebay trigger that works on both my Olympus and Canon dSLRs. If your shoe has the standard center pin, it would probably work. Of course it would simply fire the flash and cannot be used to control the flash. The receiver also has the standard center pin and works on my dedicated Olympus and Canon flashes as well as a Sunpak 422D (with STD-1D module) and some other flashes.

I think the generic trigger will do you as long as you aren't looking for control of flash from the camera.

There are also tutorials online for adjusting or adding to the trigger/receiver antennas to increase usable distance and reliability.

Thank you for that. When I look on ebay (specifically RF601 triggers), they all seem to be for a specific camera model... I am sure I am showing my ignorance here and I will look for a generic trigger simply to fire the flash in manual mode.

I think they are all the same and just labeled differently in each ad to catch the buyer's attention. You'll notice this one is labeled for several brands.

The higher end units, like pocket wizards, that let the camera and dedicated flash talk to each other via the trigger/receiver are the ones that you must match to camera model and flash model.

Mine is one of the cheap ones. $20 USD with free shipping. I drilled a hole in the trigger's case and pulled the antenna out through the hole and that gave me a little more range/reliability.

The person who buys quality only cries once.

See your money and time and get Pocket Wizards or some other well-engineered, well-made brand.

I have the Cactus V5 triggers from gadgetinfinity.com.
They work with anything with a standard hotshoe, and I can confirm they will work with anything with a PC socket as well. I have used them with both a Mamiya C330 and RB67.
As mentioned previously they are only triggers and don't do any of the fancy TTL stuff. They were quite inexpensive as I recall.

If you just want to fire your flash that you have set then look into Paul Buff CyberSynchs. I use them all the time and I've never had a no fire.

I use cheap ebay triggers on my X100 all the time. They work well but I do get a bit bummed because the X100 has no pc sync port. So I can't have a flash mounted on the hot shoe and have my trigger connected with a cord

i use Yongnuo RF 602 for canon, fits all the shoe mount pins on x100.
Only 3 cables soldered internally on tx unit (full connection should have 5cables) which is ground, x (flash trigger), and top right small pin (below x sync) which looks like ready signal. The camera signals on this pin makes the tx led light green (ready) which always wakes up the receiver, ready for high speed sync.
With x100 external flash enable, i can sync up to 1/500s with no problem. That's good enough for me.

This . I have a set of these that I used on my 40D w/YN-560 flashes before I got the X100, and been using them on the X100 after I figured out they worked. I've been able to sync up to 1/1000s with no problems. Props to Yongnuo for a solid product.
